Importing Scene & Template Help Needed

Alright so I'm in need of a little 3D help, I have 3DS Max 9 for my rendering program and tried dragging the picture of my car onto the model and it just doesn't work for some reason. One guy said I was using the wrong year template which I don't think so because I actually found in on here under the correct section. Anyways can some quickly just tell me what to do..

1) How do you import the scene, do you just go to File>import ? or what
2) What is the best way to put your picture on the 3D design, drag and drop ?
3) Which Scene's will work 100% with each series
Example which scenes will work with. Just list one or two each series etc.

The best way to open a scene is to goto File>Open. If you're looking to bring in an existing model into an already made scene, the best way is to go File>Import>Merge.

What it looks like you have here is either a.) Your're applying a map to the wrong model, or b.) you've imported a model that seems to have lost it's mapping data to display the flat properly.

But since you are using Max 9, You have to make sure that the scene you are attempting to open is made for that version of Max or earlier. Since you're using 9, any scene that says it was made using Max 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013. will not work.

Best way to apply a flat is of course in your Material Editor. Alot of scenes already have the material files loaded into a particular slot. All you have to do is find the slot that corresponds to the make of car you're using (Or something that looks like a paint flat) and replace it in there. Alot of these materials already have predefined properties for glossiness and such, dragging and dropping would mean you lose those settings.

When in doubt, there's an eye-dropper tool within your material editor that you can activate, hover over your car model, select it, and it'll load that model's material properties into the material editor. There you can replace the assigned paint flat.

Hopefully that was clear as mud, and not too overwhelming for you...

And for the record, you're definitely applying a BRCup11 map onto a SSnetCOT model. They're two different mods and/or models, so that's why things are not looking right.

Alright thanks a lot, I'm new to the 3D thing lol maybe I'll download a newer version of 3Ds to fix some of the problems. After I update to a newer version on 3Ds then I will be able to import any scene from 2009,2010,2011 etc right ? like if I use Basic 2 Car Mental Ray Scene with this paint layer in 3Ds 2012 I shouldn't have any problems will I

You shouldn't have any problems. As in your case, If you use Max 2012, you can't use a scene that was made using Max 2013 (Though I doubt anyone has yet.)

Alright so I finally got 3Ds 2013, I tried rendering a truck I created but for some reason the template was showing up pretty much looking like a flat but I think that might be because of another problem. Anyways I made a quick car with some logos on the side just to see how it would look and this is it, as you can see I am extremely noob with 3D lol any suggestions what I'm doing wrong ?. I used a 3Ds scene from here for the NWS11 mod.
