Infineon Raceway to get new name?: Watch for Infineon Raceway to possibly get a new name. Rumors are that officials are looking for a new "sustainable" naming-rights sponsor.(Sonoma Index)(7-14-2010)

I think Infineon is a corporate sponsor, so it's already one of the sponsored tracks. It used to be called Sears Point. That's what I still call it.

Yeah, you are right.

What is Infineon? been asked by some readers what the Infineon in Infineon Raceway means? from their website: Infineon Technologies focuses on the three central challenges facing modern society: Energy Efficiency, Communications and Security and offers semiconductors and system solutions for automotive and industrial electronics, chip card and security applications as well as applications in communications. Infineon’s products stand out for their reliability, their quality excellence and their innovative and leading-edge technology in analog and mixed signal, RF and power as well as embedded control. With a global presence, Infineon operates through its subsidiaries in the USA from Milpitas, California, in the Asia-Pacific region from Singapore, and in Japan from Tokyo. See more at Infineon.com.(6-20-2009)

I think that Sears Point sounds better. Maybe sears (the company) will want to sponsor!

The original names always sound better. What would you rather have? Lowe's Motor Speedway or Charlottle Motor Speedway? I think I'll take the latter. It's the same with ball parks and football stadiums. I think most are sponsored now and they don't sound nearly as cool. Actually, most sound pretty ridiculous!

Auto Club Speedway (formerly California Speedway) I like the new name better. But that is the only new name that I like better.

Infineon was a sponsor for the track, this isn't new to the track. The original name, "Sears Point", is actually based on a landmark in Sonoma however.

They should be sponsoring the race TEAMS, not the race tracks.

So sponsor 1 team... or sponsor 43 teams via the track purse...?

I'd rather have a company give money to the 43 teams via the race purse.

Auto Club Speedway
Infineon Raceway
O'Reilly Raceway Part at Indianapolis
Sundance Vacations Speedway (one of the local tracks about 30 minutes up the road)
Toyota Speedway at Irwindale
Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca
Castrol Raceway (canada)
Lucas Oil Speedway
Auto Club Raceway at Pomona
zMax Dragway

Those are the tracks that I can think of off the top of my head that have corporate names.

Then again, Lowe's did drop their sponsorship to Charlotte Motor Speedway...

I liked it when the slogan for Sears Point was 'Get To The Point'. Everyone knew what it meant. Much like MillsLayne said, it'll always be 'The Point' to me. And it'll always be 'The 'Stick' (Candlestick Park). And it'll always be 'Indy'. But it will never be 'Frisco'.

And on and on and on.

Heck, we've got a road here that has always been called 'Jerry's Road' because it didn't really have a name but Jerry's restaurant was located there. They finally gave it a name (and a stupid one at that) and what do people call it? Jerry's Road. Even the P.D.

Auto Club Speedway is the only one I can think of that sounds good. ORP, Mazda Raceway. All the others sound dumb compared to the original names (or names that we're all familliar with)

I hope Infineon Raceway/Sears Point will come up with a decent sponsor. I don't want to see Toyota Raceway or something of the like....
