As long as the track keeps fighting the city and the county, it will keep getting delayed.... Joey Logano has been trying to keep the track alive. It was one of his favorites when he was in the K&N sereis.
I'm shocked that the trucks and the Busch Series didn't run there. Would have made for some great racing, even 2,000+ miles away from the base of NASCAR.
I know back then, the trucks had Mesa Marin, but imagine a season finale on the bullring of Irwindale back then, at least from 1999-2001. And as far as the Busch Series went, I think it would have worked as a stand-alone event, even on the weekend when they raced at Auto Club Speedway.
Was it like Lucas Oil Raceway would end up in the later years, not up to NASCAR standards or something? Either way, it's sad to see Irwindale close down.
On December 29, 2017 it was announced that the track would not close in January 2018 as former Irwindale Late Model driver and track champion Tim Huddleston, along with K&N West owner Bob Bruncatti, bought the speedway to have it remain open for another 5 years.
