I feel like whether they wanted to wait five years or now you'll still a very similar reaction from the public when it comes to a new member or someone will be leaving the place or their position. I have a feeling there are still people who miss Ken Squire, Ned Jarrett, Buddy Baker, and many others who didn't come back after 2000. I'm sure when NASCAR on Fox, NBC, and eventually ESPN was announced and we would have these people leaving and these would be our new members some people probably reacted the same way as the posts above.
There are two major differences. First, in 2001, Fox was very new as we know, but the other half of the season was familiar. Don't forget that even though NBC hadn't shown much NASCAR, they brought in Turner Sports to produce all of the coverage for them and Turner had been doing NASCAR for years. Turner brought in Benny Parsons whom overshadowed all of the other people that didn't make it to 2001.

The other difference is that Fox has now been doing NASCAR for 15 years with the same group in the booth, whereas they were brand new in 2001, so this time they actually have something to go by. They reshuffled their pit reporters this year, but didn't touch the booth so it appeared they were set with those three, which makes it all the more surprising.

I understand what you are saying and I guess I didn't second look what I was researching. Just saying there's been a history of these people not coming back or getting a different job and new people coming in.
