I do not believe that is correct. There is a story behind this decal and why it's there. It should be BA 501RH That just goes to show how some ppl will hurry to make a decal or logo just to be the 1st one to put it out. And it's incorrect. How many painters have used this incorrect decal?? :(
It has the initials of Johnson's late friend Blaise Alexander, who died in an ARCA crash in 2001, and numbers that signify the tail number of the Hendrick Motorsports plane that crashed near Martinsville in 2004.

Hmm I read a story way back about this, that's weird cause it made since BA for Blaze Alexander oh well that's the internet for ya, and that's what I get. For you know the saying i read it on the internet. :D
I retract my previous post. Thanks for setting me straight John, So what does the BA stand for?
On Second thought. Are you sure that's a R

The funny thing is that when the logo was hand drawn on the car, it did say BA. My guess is that it might've got misread as BR when the tribute decal got redrawn and vectorized, and it stayed like that.

You can't see it that well with this photo, but it looks more like BA compared to the newer decal. Then again, my vision could just be crap with trying to read it.

Yea you might be right about that a typo by the decal maker. :D But then again his full name was, Blaise Robert Alexander, Jr. I thought it was Ba way back when I first knew about it.
Thanks again for clarifying it

It's an R. It use to be hand drawn on every car every week in the shop by one of the shop crew guy's.
He would use a sharpie and as John said above it just probably got mixed up back when they made it into a vector.
In all the official stuff I researched and found where reporters ask JJ about it. It started out as a BA as I stated above.
So originally it was BA 501RH.

I make these decals for Adam Alexander (brother of Blaise jr) Adam is very good friends with Jimmy Johnson.

The BR is correct for being the R represents Blaise's middle name
