Johnny Sauter hopes to compete in the Great American Race - but he has to qualify first. BK Racing signed the Camping World Truck Series standout to run the #83 Dustless Blasting Toyota in the Daytona 500. Sauter, 36, has five Cup starts at the 2.5-mile track with three top 20 finishes. He won the truck opener at Daytona in 2013. Since the #83 finished 41st in the Sprint Cup owner points, Sauter will have to earn one of the 43 starting positions. Veteran crew chief Doug Richert will be the crew chief for Sauter's effort. The pair worked together at Pocono Raceway last August. Sauter was fitted for his seat at the shop on Thursday. He joins J.J. Yeley, who will pilot the #23 Dr. Pepper Toyota with Joe Williams calling the races. Yeley has 220 Cup starts. The 38-year-old Phoenix native finished 10th in the 2013 Great American Race. A press conference is scheduled for Monday to announce the third entry in BKR's driver lineup

Richert's good enough of a crew chief so the car will be something capable of making the race. The question is whether Sauter has enough skill to do so.

Something tells me Reed Sorenson is that 3rd driver
Something or someone? I think most people assumed the #26 was not returning, they only ran it because Anthony Marlowe was paying them a good amount to field it. I think they will go back to what they were supposed to do last year, which was have the #23 and #83 full time, and have the #93 as a "rent a ride" or "field filler" (it served both capacities last year).

From what I've heard, the 26 car is coming back full-time, but Reed Sorenson will definitely not be the driver. In fact, a rookie will be behind the wheel of the 26 this season.

Very interesting, Jayski is reporting that it is Jeb Burton. The entry list for the 500 is out tomorrow right? Or is is later in the week since qualifying isn't til Sunday?
