If Ctrl+X ain't working, go to file and "Open Direct X Mesh". And you should load is the .bmp file, not the template.

Maybe I have an old version of CarViewer, this is what I get when I click on the file menu:

That almost looks like the NR2002 carviewer program. Go download the program from Masgrafx or Racin Grafix (I think they have it, too). Those menus don't look right.

Oh wait, I think you might be opening something up for the tires instead of the car. Everything in file seems to reference the tires.

Ya that looks wierd, there should be a section in between tires and textures that says something like "Open Direct X Mesh." Maybe you should try downloading it from here.

Carviewer can be a pain in the butt, but when it works correctly, it's a life saver!!

You probably had an older version. Where did you get it anyway?

When the mod files are available I prefer zMod. Why? Well the main reason is because you can save your work with any file name you want and then load that onto the mesh. If you're working on several different schemes at one time there none of that pesky 'overwrite-the-only-image-file-there-is' nonsense. And you can also reload any of your saved zMod scheme files from their last restore point. Very handy.

Too bad Zmod doesn't work for me. There's an evil entity in some of my schemes that make'em incompatible with it.

Looks like the car exploded.:twitcy:

That's why i make separeted CV folders for each of my cars.

PeaceFrog,

Is that ZMod 1 or 2? If it's v2, try using ZMod v1.07. It's about halfway down the page. It seems to me that I had nothing but problems with v2. You don't really have anything to loose at this point.

Thanks Sage, i tried, but didn't change anything. The problem isn't Zmod, but my paintings. The parts of the car that you see are the shape of a mask that i've used to make that halftone on the side of the car. And since i use masks in almost all of my bases... well, it doesn't matter, as long as i have CarViewer.

I don't really see how using a mask has anything to do with how CarViewer renders the image. A flat is a flat is a flat. I don't care if it's .bmp, .tga, .jpg, whatever. I've imported flats into both CarViewer & ZMod where some still had the mask visible and some didn't and I've never seen anything like that.

As stupid as this sounds...are you sure you're saving the right template on the right mod? Because that's what that looks like to me.

But if you're conteet just using CarViewer...OK. What do you do if no one has CarViewer files for the mod you want to work on?

No, i meant masks like these:

Quick mask.

I tested it and it works fine if i remove it before making the flat. But i can't delete it permanently, unless the car is completely done, in which case, i won't need to load it on Zmod anymore.

If I understand you correctly you're using CarViewer/ZMod to check the alignment of your masks? Why can't you just 'Save As...' (Ctrl+Shift+S) and then save as a .jpg/.bmp/.tga (whatever the program calls for)? Your mask is still preserved and you can go back and tweak it in Photoshop/Paint Shop Pro. I've used multiple layer masks & quick masks in my schemes and I've still never experienced what you are.

As an example:
1st image is a quickie Whelen. The 'dots' are on a separate layer and are in 'Quick Mask' mod. Notice that I made the background transparent.
'Saved As..' a .tga in the respective ZMod folder.
Launched ZMod; opened the Whelen Monte; clicked the 'Material Editor" (red ball-looking thing); clicked the 'Down' arrow in the top window and selected 'paintjob'; clicked on the 'Primary Texture' button and selected 'montecarlo1' and then clicked on the 'Add' button; navigated to my saved .tga (in this case called 'mask-test'), clicked on it and then 'OK'.
2nd image is the result.

I'm still trying to figure out what the problem is when you use ZMod.

Thanks man! I don't understand what's happening either. I'll try to tweak the mask and see what happens!
