Carl Edwards has already said he would be cutting his schedule way back if he does any, the plans were way up in air the last I heard.

Carl is running a limited schedule and is moving into the broadcast booth as a TV analyst for ESPN. I think he will be great in the booth.

Edwards in the booth? ESPN is starting to slowly improve more and more now.

You can ask anyone I've ever talked to during a race, I've always said, Edwards will be the next great announcer when he retires. Well it looks like he won't have to retire for us to find out(y)

Yeah he has got the personality for it for sure, I loved the lot lap he did as the in race reporter a few years ago. I think hes the only in race reporter to ever talk on broadcast while under green.

Leffler candidate for KBM truck ride: Jason Leffler, who drove in the Nationwide Series in 2011 for Turner Motorsports, is the leading candidate to drive a full season for Kyle Busch Motorsports in the Camping World Truck Series, multiple sources have confirmed. It appears owner Kyle Busch will drive few - if any - races for his own Truck or Nationwide teams next season.(Charlotte Observer)(12-28-2011)

Leffler? I didn't see that coming.... this has been an interesting silly season!

It's only a foreign concept to those who've only watched or can only remember back to about 2004 or so.

Back in the day there'd be a few Cup drivers in the then-Busch Grand National Series, and they'd win maybe 5 races out of the season or so, but the majority of the races and the championship were settled amongest series regulars. It was a mostly healthy balance, with everyone going "Oh dear!" whenever Mark Martin would be entered in the #60 Winn-Dixie car (and 'dear' wasn't really the word they'd say in case you missed it). For those who haven't experienced that kind of Nationwide series, worry not, you'll like it.

Buschwhackers have never won less than 7 Busch races per season and have won a minimum of 10 races per season in each year except for in 1982, 1983, 1984, 1985, 1987 and 1992. (For example, in the inaugural 1982 season, Earnhardt and Shepherd won 2 apiece, while D. Waltrip, Pearson, Gant and G. Bodine won once each)

The Sportsman/Pre-Busch days are most likely a different story though, and, as you said, the championship battles had a healthy balance before the chase era.

If that's where the series is headed back to, then it'll be a better series. What's even harder to remember about back in the day was that a Busch/Nationwide race didn't have 43 cars every race. It was in the mid-30's and even less at the smaller short tracks like Myrtle Beach & South Boston. So, I hope no one panics if/when the Nationwide series drops the field size, which it looks like it will have to do pretty shortly. Dropping field size and having less Cup guys will both end up being good things for the series from here on.

It was kind of strange that they did run such small fields on Myrtle Beach and South Boston, considering that they both managed to hold 43-car fields in 2000. However, unlike with the current schedule, that was most likely due to the track owners attempting to prevent tracks from being "overpopulated" with cars. (i.e. the 1998 South Boston race had 43 entries, but only 35 cars were allowed on the track)

Today, though, insufficient entries would be the cause.

Finaly! I was beginning to think that nationwide drivers wouldn't get to win anymore! This is great news for everyone who drives full-time in the NNS!
