Yep, as long as you own the original disc, you're allowed to make a backup.

You can make as many copies as you like. You can not sell, or distribute them in any manner. They are meant for backup purposes.

And to copy a disk any disk (DVD, CD, Blu Ray) you will need a decrypter most likely. There are free ones available.

Once you run the Disk Decryption software then run Nero, or Roxio or what ever you use and select clone disk or CD.

I have the original 2003 disk bought it when it first came out.
I also still have the first Nascar disk ever made back in early 1990's and everyone since.
Can someone please tell me how to make 1 legal copy? I know it can be done according to
Sierra/Papyrus.

you need to get AnyDVD or DVDFAB. Those are my 2 personal choices. They will unlock the disk and strip the encryption from the image. Then you just use your copy program of choice.

I was not criticizing I was asking a simple question. I asked because I thought that it was illegal and wanted to know if there was such a way to do it legally.

Here's a how-to for copying your Nascar 2003 CD to your hard drive so that you don't have to have your cd physically in the drive to race online. I've been using this method for a few months and it's worked flawlessly even with A-CDM set to its highest setting. If i've left out anything in this guide let me know and I'll fix it when I have access to my gaming computer, I'm typing this from work right now. Smile

Step 1: Download and install the trial version of Alcohol 120 from Alcohol Soft trial version download . The trial version should be fully functional for 30 days, but we only need a few minutes to make a backup of your Nascar cd. You can uninstall Alcohol 120 if you don't plan on backing up any more cd's.

Step 2: Open up Alcohol 120 and go to the "Image Making Wizard". A new menu will pop up where you will select what cd drive your Nascar cd is in. In the bottom left corner there is a setting for "Datatype" Make sure it is set to "Securom NEW (4.x/5.x). Make sure "Skip reading errors", "read Sub-Channel Data from current disc" and "Data Position Measurement" are checked and "Fast skip error blocks" and "Advanced Sector Scanning" are unchecked. Click "Next"

Step 3: The next menu that comes up will ask you where to save the backed up cd file. Make sure your hard drive has at least 1GB free for the file and save it with whatever name you can easily remember under "Image Name". Under "Image format", select "Media Descriptor Image file (*.mds)". Click "Start" to copy the cd to the hard drive.

Step 4: A menu will come up asking for "Measuring speed". Select any number that you feel comfortable with, but if you have problems reading the cd, back the number down until it works. The copying process should take a few minutes, depending on the speed of the computer.

Step 5: Now that you have a mds file containing the contents of your Nascar cd, you'll need to fool windows into thinking that file is a real cd drive containing a real cd. That's where Daemon Tools comes into play. Download and install it from News :: DAEMON-Tools.cc You'll need to reboot before you'll be able to use the program.

Step 6: After you've rebooted, you should see a green icon in your system tray that shows you that daemon tools is up and running. If it isn't, go to C:\Program Files\D-tools and run daemon.exe. Click on that green icon and select Device 0. It should also have a drive name by it. When you do that a menu will come up asking to open a file. Find the .mds file you created with Alcohol 120 and open that up. If autoplay is enabled, a menu should open up asking to install/play Nascar 2003. If not, go to My Computer and look for the drive letter that corresponds to the device you opened in Daemon tools. In My Computer, it'll act exactly like a cd drive. It does not matter which drive letter the cd is, as long as the Nascar "cd" is in the "drive".

With NR2003 you can just simply download any cd making software and copy it. Don't think there is any encription or anything.
