So i read today that Mark Martin has decided to run a full 2010 season in the 5 car.

If he's this good and still early in the season (just a little bad luck beyond his control), just think how good he could be next year after really hitting his stride and really being adjusted with his crew chief who was a die hard MM fan which will only serve as additional motivation!!! He's still got a good chance to get in the chase this year and he could be possibly consistent enough to win the title so long as he doesn't wind up in the wrong place at the wrong time. But if he doesn't win, I'd bet for him next year still!

What do you think guys???

I say good move; and I am really enjoy watching him week to week. This man has every bit of potential in the world to win the championship this year. There is no doubt in my mind that without the problems in the first 3 or 4 races that he would be atop the points right now.

I might be getting a little over excited, but is it just me, or does Mark seem like he will be racing into his mid to late 50s? I definately see it right now. :D

I could totally see him getting a life time contract offer from either Hendrick or Stewart Haas. Stewart would field a car for Mark in a heartbeat. I think anyone would right on up to his 90s lol.

Mark can race as long as he wants to. He's NASCAR's Brett Favre at this point.

Only Mark Martin isn't becoming a joke like Favre has. I could see Mark being like Morgan Shepherd, only in competitive equipment.

Yeah if he were Farve he'd be embarassing himself racing as much as Jame Hylton did trying to qualify for the daytona 500. now Hylton THATS brett farve LMAO. In all respect to Dale Earnhardt, actually I'd put Mark's competitive spirit and performance on par with Dale Sr at this point. They were the few of many people getting into their elderly years that still had great success in racing. Minus the fact that he's by far a cleaner racer than Dale Earnhardt, he's proving that you could be a fossil from the jurassic period and still run up front with the big boys. Something drivers like DW couldn't do in their final years as they just faded back into the pack and lost all their luster b4 they retired with a degree of embarassment for losing that competitive edge..

That's one more year of Mark complaining about how much he hates restrictor plate racing, ladies and gentlemen.

Even Richard Petty retired a bit too late. He started missing races, and that's where the past-champions provisional rule came from. Mark Martin, Dale Earnhardt, Harry Gant, or Bobby Allison are those rare cases where they are or were competitive past 48.

restrictor place racing is entertaining, fun to play on a sim and watch on tv, but can be very dangerous in reality and it can be even more disheartening when you're taken out in a wreck that you had pretty much nothing to do with. Beyond that his post wreck comments were probably the most chipper post wreck comment's i've heard. He said he was going to stop short of complaining. he's happy to race and thats reflected in his on track performace. afterall a happy worker is a better worker :D

I believe he'll have a legacy all his own even if he doesn't get a title to back it up with. And if he doesn't get that title, his legacy will most likely be greatest nascar driver without a title to his name.
