Menard guaranteed a spot in Daytona 500 field - Feb 04, 2011 - NASCAR.COM
Sounds like TRG just got pwned.

Why didn't they take the 98's points? Or is that taken?

How did TRG get pwned when they agreed to a give RCR the points which are only good for 5 races. In return TRG gets RCR's help and equipment in return I think its a good deal as far as RPM they run ford and besides maybe a cash value a deal between the 2 wouldn't be beneficial.
Michael Waltrip was working on a deal to get TRG's points so he would have the guaranteed spot in the 500. It sounded like there was a good chance it was going to happen and then all of a sudden TRG said 'actually we are going to run the full season so we need them'. Then they put out a little press release type thing saying they intend to run the full season and will be making driver/sponsorship announcements within a week or so. Now they go dish the points to RCR. It seems kinda weird the way the whole thing went down. Too bad too because I would've loved to see Waltrip get the guaranteed spot in the 500. Hell, he deserves it more than friggin Steve Wallace. What a joke.
I think its pretty evident though that NASCAR needs to do something about restructuring these particular rules. Right now teams can basically make a cash transaction of some kind in exchange for owners points and thats not right in my opinion. They have all these loopholes in which the seller just has to put his name on a piece of paper that makes him appear to be a part owner, and in reality, everybody (including NASCAR) knows that guy will have nothing to do with the team in any way and its just a paper trail.
The whole thing just aint right in my personal opinion. I'm not exactly sure how you go about regulating it, but if that means eliminating points transfers all together then I'd be fine with it.

So a so called semi retired driver who has won it before deserve a shot over and up and coming driver I think not. as for the RCR deal that isnt a bad deal if you look at it and just because they trade RCR points for support doesnt mean they arnt running the full season.
Look at it like I said before the points the 27 is getting is only for 5 races. The RCR support is all year long. It isnt like RCR is low budget team they are the top two chevy teams in nascar.
Not sure about the 98 points I would think they would sell them or look for some kinda deal for them since the 43 and 9 pts were better.
Like I said, I dont think it should happen at all. But if we are talking about who is more deserving of it? Yes, in my personal opinion, I think a two time Daytona 500 winner with 25 years in the sport is more deserving than an average-at-best Nationwide Series driver who has basically been riding his fathers coat tails and wallet into the higher ranks of racing.
As far as the deal with RCR, it really makes no difference to me either way what the terms are. My opinion is that points transfers or exchanges shouldnt happen, or should only happen within a team at best. There are race teams who showed up to all 36 races and earned every point they have in the standings, and it means nothing if someone shows up with a big paycheck. Again, my personal opinion, but I dont think its right at all.
