"Evidently not television commentator and two-time Daytona 500 Michael Waltrip, who weighed in via his Twitter feed: "I am a huge fan of a late caution," he wrote. "In basketball [they] just call it what it is. A TV time out. In football [it's] the break in change of possessions. In baseball [it's] either a walk to the mound or the end of an inning. [It's] sports. NASCAR needs to have those too." "

Seriously? How can he say that late faux cautions are needed?

I'm not complaining.... i'm not saying they're right.... but I sure don't wanna see a 9 second difference from first to second on the last lap. I feel mysterious debree cautions make it exiting.

David Caraviello makes a great counter argument to Waltrips thinking.

Of course, in a basketball game, a TV time out does not erase a 20-point lead, which is the roundball equivalent of what Hamlin had Sunday at Michigan. Likewise, a visit to the mound in baseball or a change of possession in football do not automatically level the score, which is essentially what happens after any late-race caution. And more importantly, none of those moves ever take place in an attempt to give the fans a better show, which is the rationale some are using to justify what they believed to be a phantom caution at Michigan last week.

Why not just make the races 40 laps and run 3 a weekend then? It makes just as much sense as running 200 laps to have only 10 of that even matter...

I don't get it....... it wasn't 10 that mattered.... all 200 of the laps mattered. I look at this situation as.... You have 180 laps to get your car right and get track position........ then you have 20 to have at it and see what you got. Michigan is boring for me to watch as it is.... the late caution just made it exiting.

People that believe it was a Mystery caution are the dumb ones, they showed the freaking debris on camera.

Somtimes they don't. While it spices up the action for sure, it just doesn't seem right to take away a sure win for someone because they're stinking up the show.

This thread is an example of how it's not possible to please 100% of Nascar fans at any one time.

Just my piece of argument for that stupid "for the fans" argument.

1 piece of history for ya - the best finish in history (Darlington 03) would not have existed had there been a dolly caution...

The GWC DO NOT create side by side finishes like we all hope and dream - usually, it's the fastest guy winning by about .4 of a second.

Personally I'd rather see crazy races where there's only 10 on the lead lap, dead as anything tires, beat up cars, crud all over the track - winners by more than 1 second.
THAT IS RACING.

9/10 the GWC provide an EVEN BIGGER anti-climax because somehow we are all expecting a last corner pass! IT"S NOT SUPPOSED TO END LIKE THAT! That's why those finishes are so good, because they are rare!

I dunno, just my 'random thought' I guess.
