From Jayski:

Chase format could change?: NASCAR officials are meeting with drivers and team owners to discuss possible changes in the sport, including how the Sprint Cup champion is determined. While NASCAR c hairman Brian France has been careful not to make abrupt modifications to the title Chase since its debut in 2004, it seems as if changes are due. The Chase field expanded from 10 to 12 drivers in 2007. NASCAR also began awarding 10 bonus points that year for each race a driver wins before the Chase. NASCAR can examine the Chase and other topics because of the sense that the racing has improved. So the meetings this past week - some still need to be held - provide NASCAR a chance to discuss the Chase, testing, what to do with Cup drivers in Nationwide Series races and other topics. "They're certainly looking at the future," said Jeff Burton, who joined Richard Childress Racing officials in meeting with NASCAR last week. "Every conversation I've ever been in with NASCAR, once a year there's a conversation about the Chase. Does it work? Could it be better? That's almost an annual conversation." With the Chase, some of the questions being asked are about the number of competitors, the format and how to determine the champion. When asked about possible changes about how the champion is determined, Mark Martin said he told series officials: "Go for it." Dale Earnhardt Jr., who also met with series officials last week, said: "I didn't get a sense that there was a guarantee on any major changes." Among some of the ideas involving the Chase would be expanding the field. Based on the percentage of teams that make the Chase (27.9 percent of a 43-car field make it), NASCAR trails other pro sports when compared to the percentage of teams that make the playoffs. One suggestion tossed in the meetings is resetting the points for the top drivers heading into the final race.(Virginian Pilot), see past news, riules, comparisons and more on my Chase News page.(6-16-2010)

God I hope not. One race does not and should not determine the "SEASON" Champion! After all the good things they have done to improve thing would be wiped away if they go through with this.... You can not manufacture a close points chase, Why can't they let them acually race for a championship for once!

As much as I hate to say this.....If they change the chase again, I think Im probly done with NASCAR. I dont like the chase anyway, 12 cars is way to much hell I think 10 is to many. JRRacing said it perfect you can not manufacture a close points race. Get your head outta your butt Brian France

Resetting the points before the final race would be retarded. Sometimes I think Brian France is mentally retarded. It would destroy any point in racing hard at all the 9 previous chase races and would create boring races. I'd trade 10 races of pretty hard racing for 1 race of incredibly insanely hard racing.

Just leave it. Every time they change the points format for the Chase, they make it worse.

ugh...

I have a new, revolutionary idea for the Chase, in order to determine the season champion!!!

How about we let everyone into the Chase...that way everyone will have a shot at the title, and we add races to the chase, and give the Championship to whoever amasses the most points over a 36 race schedule. :)

The "New NASCAR" (2004-present) has screwed everything up for us. No more changes please, or take it away all together.

I will cite my own quote in my signature to emphasize my view...

"Starting in 2004, NASCAR eliminated the season long Cup Series Championship. Now they crown the driver who was good enough for 7 months....but awesome in just 3."

...and the fans have spoken...

*Brian France hushes the crowd and pulls out an envelope*

...for the 10th year in a row...

*pauses to build drama*

...as voted by you, the fans....

...the NASCAR Sprint Cup Champion for 2021 is...

DALE EARNHARDT JR.!!!!

*American Idol music plays, and the crowd goes wild*

The funny thing is that this is the only foreseeable way that NASCAR will get its wish and Jr. will win a Cup title...lol :)

And in any other sport there's terrible officiating to create fixes..........

However, in hockey they can 'accidentally' follow through on a check where the ref is..........or a wild deflection works too.

I would trade a 26 race season and a 10 race playoff for 36 actual weeks of competition.

I would love to go back to the pre 2004 points system just for the sake of all you to stop complaining....

With the chase we don't know who the champ is until the last lap of the last race of the season. With the Winston Cup system there was no point in watching as many as the last three races of the year because everyone knew who the champ was going to be.

Now don't get me wrong. This "one race determinating the champ" is complete bull $hit.

Already, I'm starting to focus more on IRL. Hence my new avatar. When I went to the Indy 500, it was great racing all over! Then I watched the Coke 600 and was like "I WATCH this?" NASCAR just needs to stop the changes. They think they're for the better, when they are just the opposite. The only good thing NASCAR has done recently was get rid of the wing. Everything else has been bad. Now they wanna ruin the championship chase EVEN MORE? They KNOW the fans don't like it to begin with, but now they have another "I think the fans will like this" episode. What NASCAR is doing to the chase is suicide for the sport. It's a spectator sport and without the spectators, well, I'm gonna need to do something else on Sunday.

I say, forget the cars. Let's just have a giant UFC fight and determine the NASCAR champ that way.

It could be worst. just think if bernie was in charge of nascar. There would be medals to decide the champion.
