Manufacturers' logos added to windshield of cars: During Autoweek's Racing Conference held Tuesday in Detroit, NASCAR announced a further enhancement to the new Gen-6 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series (NSCS) cars that puts even more focus on manufacturer identity. In addition to displaying the names of the drivers on the Gen-6 car windshield, there will also be manufacturer identification present on either side of the driver's name. The roundtable, town hall-style conference featured a panel that included NASCAR President Mike Helton, NASCAR VP of Competition Robin Pemberton and NASCAR VP of Brand, Consumer and Series Marketing Kim Brink, as well as executives from Chevrolet SS, Ford Fusion and Toyota Camry. "I want to confirm that in addition to adding the name of the driver on the windshield, we're adding the badge of the manufacturer to each side of the driver's name," said Helton. "We believe this will help build the identity of the driver with the race car and their relationship with the manufacturer." The Motor City was the kickoff of "NASCAR's #Gen6 Road to Daytona Fueled by Sunoco," a multi-city tour introducing the Gen-6 race cars and generating excitement for the 2013 NASCAR season. Gen-6 will make its on-track debut during the non-points The Sprint Unlimited at Daytona International Speedway on Saturday, Feb. 16 at 8 p.m. ET on FOX and culminates with the 55th running of the season-opening Daytona 500 on Sunday, Feb. 24 at 1 p.m. ET on FOX.(NASCAR), see an image of the windshields on the 2013 Manufacturers images page.(2-5-2013)

Once again another detail I could care less about. Not saying it bothers me just saying idc. Everyone made a big hoopla out of the names then the cars all came out and everyone barley noticed it. Once again once they start racing this is another irrelevant detail in my eyes. I care about the racin'!

looks like one of those decals you get at auto zone in a vain attempt to make your moms hand-me-down 1988 ford taurus look "cool"

I agree with the general consensus that I dont really care how many stupid stickers they put on the thing if they took some of that damn aero dependency away. watching truex nearly crash trying to pass hamlin for a win last year was probably the best example ever. dominant car all day gets within five feet of the back bumper and the nose is gone, hang on this ones gonna hurt.

Personally, I don't mind it. If NASCAR thinks that it should be that way, then so be it.

Don't care, just some additive stuff. But it would be nice if it went from the Sprint logo to Last Name to Manufacturer logo.

I am okay with brand identity like back in the 80s and early 90's but plastering it over the windshield is rediculious if you can't tell between the cars then you don't need to be watching Nascar racing IMO. I agree with the guy that posted about the autozone decals you can buy on your windshield how bout we just put FEAR THIS or CHEVROLET SS etc on the windshields come on Nascar get real that is too much. Putting SPRINT or SUNOCO on the windshield makes more sense then this!

Whats next, contigs on the window-net?

Seriously though, this seems kind of pointless. They go out of their way to design cars that resemble the street models, and THEN decide to put manufacturer logos in new places?

Sure, why not? All that can do is build even more brand identity into the car, which is the whole point of the Gen. 6 project.

As for contigs on the window net, well...

I think NASCAR is trying to copy the other touring car series(If you consider NASCAR a touring car series. I mean, look at the Chevy SS compared to the cars in WTCC. Before you know it there will be sponsors on the wind shield and numbers on the quarter window...I like this though

I was totally cool with the American Ethanol sticker, and even more happy when windshield banners and roof sponsors came along. But now it just seems like NASCAR is whoring out the car now. The windshields looks fine with just a single line of text on it, but with two identical full-color manufacturer logos, it just looks clustered.

But then again, I like to make a scene in public when I noticed someone used a font I don't like for a paper. So I'm probably rather extreme with my opinion.

There are a lot of new and casual fans watching who arent as familiar with cars. In fact, there are plenty of people who could look at a car sitting in a parking lot and not be able to identify it without seeing the manufacturer name or logo somewhere on it.

The whole point of putting a name banner on the windshield is for those who arent as familiar. Since it serves the purpose of informing them of whos driving the car, might as well inform them of the manufacturer as well.
