These results are shaping up more realistically. Why? Because the people here are real racing fans. It's the masses of fair-weather fans that always vote for Joonyer.

Wow. What a statement. SRD has the REAL racing fans. The hell with everyone else in the world...

Are we talking about the same SRD? Because the one I visit has more bitching and moaning in race threads than anything else week in and week out. If the whole race doesnt resemble the last 10 laps, or if theres long green flag runs without many cautions or wrecks, the thread is saturated with "snoozefest" and "borefest" type comments. Not to mention, the majority seem to be people who have been watching racing for just a few years, if even that.

Dont get me wrong, not trying to put every single person here in that same boat and I'm not trying to say there arent "real" or genuine race fans here, but thats quite a statement to make. You're basically saying that SRD is like the benchmark when it comes to making an opinion-oriented assessment of some kind reguarding race fans. No offense or anything, but there are much better resources/outlets for making that kind of assessment than SRD.

How can fair-weather fans always vote for Jr? I'm a Jr fan and he has sucked the last two years and each each year he wins the most popular driver award. If there are fair-weather fans they should be voting for Jimmie not Jr.:tooth:

Um. Basically I meant that most of the people here actually WATCH the race if they can. Unlike the majority of folks who jumped on the bandwagon and usually watch football. There was an influx of these people after Earnhardt's death garnered so much attention. Some have stayed loyal, but many watch football but still try to participate in things like the Most Popular Driver Contest.

Most of them are Joonyer "fans". Most of his fans I meet have no clue where he is in the points, and still think he drives the 8 and Bud is still his sponsor. In other words, they have no clue that he sucks. Some of them have even argued with me that he's won multiple championships. They just don't KNOW, but they want to be trendy or whatever, so they pretend to know.

And seriously, why the venom for the folks here at SRD? I've been a NASCAR fan since about '88, but most of the SRD members are younger folks. That's a GOOD thing. If the community just depended on old fogeys like me who have been playing these games since '94, it would be almost nonexistent. So easy there, big fella!:p

So Jr sucks right? That means Stewart sucks, Bowyer sucks, Hamlin sucks, Biffle sucks, Logano sucks, Truex sucks, Kahne sucks, and Martin sucks because they all have about the same stats as Jr this year and are behind him in points.
Speaking of Martin... doesn't he have the crew chief Jr had last year. And where is Martin in points.... about the same as Jr last year. Jr has mediocre stats but he has the talent to produce the results people want..... and like he said in his interview on RaceHub.... I think they will nail a setup 1 week and win a race.

People have said this before... Jr sucks until he wins 8 championships.

I'm a lifelong Martin fan, but, yes, right now he sucks. And, yes, Joonyer is better this year. If you look at the quotes, we were talking about the past few years. One good year does not make up for many bad ones. If he's consistently good for a few years, things will average out. I'm not attacking him (though I really can't stand him), I'm just illustrating that most of the people who pretend to be fans tend to gravitate toward Joonyer because he's very visible. Many of his fans are loyal NASCAR fans as well. I'm just saying that most of the "fluff" fans tend to go his direction. I detest Johnson even more than Joonyer, but he's a more likely candidate for Most Popular Driver.

How did i know this would turn into a Jr. nation vs. the world debate. I like Jr. but i hate Jr. nation and i have a feeling i'm not the only one who feels this way, and while undedavenger may have exaggerated quite a bit, Jr nation overrates Jr. sometimes to the point of insanity.

^That is exactly how I feel.

Jr., himself, does not get under my skin. He's very likeable, and if it wasn't for Jr. Nation, I'd love to see him do better.

However, I hate it when he runs well, and dread the day when he wins again...because ESPN's hype-machine, NASCAR.com's hype-machine, and the blogosphere will explode. I hate the over-coverage of him, and hate the Jr. Nation 'fanboys'. There are A LOT of Jr. fans who are actual fans who have realistic views and expectations and are passionate about him, but there are a lot MORE Jr. bandwagoners...the 'JOOOOYNNNERRRR!!!' fans'.

However, when it comes to talking driver 88, I heed my signature quote...

I don't talk about politics or Dale Jr. in mixed company. I will always offend someone.

I've always been a Jr. fan...but honestly, what's so great about him? I understand his father was one of the if not the greatest drivers in Nascar history, but so? Legacies don't always need to be backed up. "Heroes get remembered, but legends never die" That quote applies to nearly everything. Dale Sr. is not going to be forgotten, Jr. fans shouldn't put him under the pressure of fulfilling his father's greatness. He's a good driver and that's all. I voted for him because I thought this was a "what everyone else thinks" contest, Jeff Gordon now, is far more popular.

I completely agree... I would love to see the day when Jr isn't most popular driver.
There are people who think Jr is the worst driver ever and there are people(Jr Nation) who think he's the greatest.
I don't think Jr is the greatest.... I think he's a top 10 driver. He thinks he's a top 10 driver. It just irks me when someone says that he sucks constantly.

Always been a fan of Gordon and always will be.

Ambrose, the Dinger and Regan Smith are up there for me.

Which is what, in my own convoluted way, I was trying to say. Junior may not be his Daddy, but he'd be better without trying to please all those goofballs that follow him around. And yes, I realize that not all of his fans are that way.

You know, I detested Gordon for a long time, and not because he was always beating out Mark Martin. He said himself that he was snotty and arrogant. But losing Evernham and losing his game for a while actually helped him mature a lot. I think one of the reasons he's not as dominant is that he THINKS more now, but still he's a lot easier to like. I'm still not a fan of his, but at least I respect him now.

Jimmie Johnson, however, is like Gordon from the late 90's right now. He's more than a little arrogant and whiny. But already I see the signs Gordon showed at the end of his big run. Knaus is complaining a lot, and they seem to be losing their handle on the cars. Jimmie figured out the COT faster than everyone else, that was one of his advantages. But as the COT has slowly mutated back toward what the cars used to be, he seems to be sliding back into the pack. I really don't see Knaus with him much longer unless things start popping again in a big way. He'll want his own team like Evernham, or he'll simply want a change of pace. If he and Jimmie don't win the Cup again this year, I think there's a good chance they'll stick him with Kahne or Junior at some point down the line. Maybe even Gordon.

I'm a Roush fan, always have been. Carl Edwards is my favorite followed by Matt Kenseth. I really don't care much for the other 2 but I'll still cheer for them. I'm also a Mark Martin fan, who can't like the guy?

It's easy to name my 2 least favorite drivers. Jimmie Johnson and Juan Pablo Montoya. I'm to the point I can stand Gordon now.
