AP Sources: MWR Cutting to 2 Full Teams in 2014 - ABC News

The Associated Press has learned that Michael Waltrip Racing will run only two full-time cars next season because of the loss of sponsor NAPA.

Team owners Michael Waltrip and Rob Kauffman on Monday began telling employees of their decision. Those affected were told they are free to begin looking for a new job immediately.

Two employees spoke to the AP on condition of anonymity because MWR had not publicly announced its decision.

The car that Martin Truex Jr. currently drives will run a partial schedule in 2014.

NAPA decided to leave MWR at the end of the year — fallout from the team's attempt to manipulate the finish at Richmond to get Truex into the Chase for the Sprint Cup championship.

So I guess that means Truex to Furniture Row is a done deal. Waltrip will probably run the 56 for himself in plate races.

Well it's sad but I think that they asked for it.
But I'm really sad with Truex Jr., because I don't think that he had any fault on the Spin-Gate.

It would be really bad for MWR if Truex goes to another team and Vickers isn't healthy enough to drive next season...I'm sure he'll recover in time, but there is always that if.

I'm starting to think MWR would be well off by firing Ty Norris. Every bone in my body tell's me he was the mastermind behind "spingate". If that's the case moving on from him might save some face and regain at least a small portion of credibility for the team.

Man the whole situation at richmond has hurt Mwr big time i hope they can recover from it. Its sad to see truex leaving mwr this way and yes im assuming he is leaving the team.

Truex going to Furniture Row could be very interesting. That would show what kind of driver he really is. He likely doesn't have to talent of Kurt Busch, but if he runs well there he can start trying to work his way back to a top team which I think FRR is turning into one.

Hopefully someone in the Nationwide series like Kligerman will get a part-time shot with MWR in Cup since the 56 is being turned into a development team.

Not always. Michael came out and said he stood behind everyone at MWR. But if he would now come out and fires Ty he would be going back on what he said and the damage from standing with him is already done.

What a shame. Hopefully Truex finds a home at Furniture Row and the MWR employees affected by this can find new jobs with other teams inside of the sport.

I don't think MWRs performance will regress, in fact I think it'll stay the same Bowyer is an A- driver and Vickers when healthy is capable of being in top 10 every week. Also having the R&D team will help I think we'll see 00 back too. As for Truex I see him doing as good at Furniture Row as Kurt has this year possibly winning a few races.
