Did you enlarge the base and color it in to make an outline?

Use the Stroke option in "Blending options" next time.

Other than that, good car.

OK, thanks. I used only the Stroke tool, not the one under Blending Options.

Looks great. I think the black outline is a little too thick though.

Where are the "Blending Options"?

You know, you could have stuck with GIMP..there's a layer effects script that enables it to have layer effects just like Photoshop, my tutorial:

The last Photoshop before the CS line.

Draw the line you want with the pen tool then right click and Stroke it.

Nice work! Especially for a first base with a new program.

As some of the other commented, just clean up the stroke around the base, and it'll be good to go. :)

That's the thing I struggle with, just getting that line smooth.

First off, you need smooth edges on your base layer, otherwise the outline can't be smooth. Secondly, I'd either use the stroke under the blending options, or just duplicate the base layer, select its outline, expand the selection, delete the contents, and then refill the selection with the color you want for the stroke. Using the stroke tool from the drop down menu isn't as clean an option as these two.

Just keep at it, keep experimenting with stuff and you'll get there. You're well on your way.

Thanks Mike, you won't believe the amount of motivation you gave me! Another question: How do I smooth the edges? I probably know, but I want to make sure.
