Game is now hitting the shelves. Initial customer reviews say it's a lot like NT2004 (probably my favorite EA NASCAR title).

Anyone planning to pick it up?

I probably will after I know they will be patching the new playoff format in the game. It seems like they will but that is make or break for me.

I'll probably get the PS3 Version since i KNOW my PC is not powerful enough to run it.

Time for a computer upgrade for me, Huzzah! (Hope the AI aren't like brick walls, and the player a Feather)

Played up to (and won) the All Star race beating Jeff on a restart (The ONLY decent restart of the year I may add) so here's my thoughts on PC at least

Sitting 15th in points here and not had a lot of massive issues. No crashes bar one in the menus, no dumb AI decisions bar them having NOS at the plate tracks, though that COULD be me trying to save money...

Wait, money??

How it works in career mode is this and it reminds me of the PS2 version of NT2004 which I liked a lot and comes off as pretty cool to me.

So you fill out your driver details and you start with no sponsors and 20,000 creds in the bank and a default paintjob which looks pretty nice. You got an R&D department that you can research stuff like an engine shop or a body shop or a parts shop to begin with. The catch? You don't have nearly enough. It costs 130,000 credits to get one of the three I mentioned. Engine specialist? 350,000 credits.

No biggie, off to Daytona to try to make the 500 right?? Well.......sort of and this is the other cool bit.

See you got a race budget (which is your total team budget by the way) and each part costs.

So out of your 20,000 credits you got to budget an engine, suspension chassis, an engine map (when you researched them and they only apply to your own engines) and a body for the car. By default or if you want to save credits, you're running refurbished stuff.

So back to Daytona. You got a choice between refurbished which is pretty slow but costs no money....or stock which is quicker but costs 20,000.

It's actually VERY well done IMO, do you go for a quick car and hope your sponsor money covers costs (yeah right....initially it won't. I got Featherlite who paid 11k a race. Stingy much?) or save money but be slower.

So you got a sponsor somehow.

Right you got to go and put the stickers on your car. There's a small bug where the rookie stripes and windshield name'll disappear (not a huge issue)...so yes you have to paint your own cars this year. You can have multiple schemes outside of the main Career mode, so if you want to paint a 4th of July special? You can. Want to do an All Star weekend scheme? Go for it! Want to run with fictional sponsors? You get the picture

Paint booth's fiddly but it's easy to learn.

Career mode sounds cool from what I've read. I want to know what the AI is like and how the racing is though. AI difficulty? Is it still messed up? Can you actually have a decent setting to where you don't smoke them or they don't plow through you?

Yeah you can but the %ages aren't universal. 50% at Daytona isn't 50% at Phoenix (as expected) whereas 50% at Pocono's more like 150% anywhere else. Overall the AI is insanely good at restarts and tends to blow the doors off my career car that I use for race now

Do a few races to get a feel for the strength for each track.

Career mode sounds better than previous years. I'm still going to sit this one out for the time being and wait for a sale or see what others say as time goes by. I may just wait until they make the next one since it will be for next gen (hopefully) which means they can do even more.

Something I've been curious about. I know you have some painting freedom in Career Mode, but are there more options for the number font or even the ability to make your own? Or are you stuck with the default font in the last game? I've been very on the fence about the game as a whole so it's nice having reviews from educated NASCAR fans instead of some gaming site online that probably doesn't even know who Jeff Gordon is.

+1. No way am I going to shell out $40+ on something unfinished and buggy like I did last year.

I am playing it through a friend, They can go 4 wide at Talladega, the AI can spin out just as easily as you can its no more the Brick wall to feather ratio.
At Plate tracks you have a nice challenge. And to top it off it seems more Optimized than NTG '13.
The engine sounds are different and aren't a re-hash of NTG '12.

NTG '14 - So far I like it. !

I finally got around to picking it up Monday. So far I'm really enjoying it. The biggest difference I immediately noticed between it and NTG IL is that the default setups that were often icy and loose in IL are now a little too snug. I've had to tweak a lot of them to be competitive because I myself am not very good with a tight car. That's not a knock, as you can tweak the setup to your liking, but I know the setups in IL were a major turn off for some people.

I've read lots of horror stories of freezing. So far I've only had it actually freeze once and I also got stuck in the endless trivia loop (Yes... they kept that) once.

Overall the AI is a bit stronger and in some ways a lot smarter. They don't have perfect wreck avoidance yet (Along with NR2003, FM4, and plenty of other racing games credited for realism) and most of the bugs seem to be minor things that will likely be patched.

The biggest glitches I've found so far aren't in the gameplay, but in the paint booth. When you paint a car, the windshield name disappears. There's also no way to manually put it on. The Fusion is missing the lower grille and the rear SS decal disappears when you go to paint on it with no way to get it back. Both of those have been beat to death on their forums so I'd imagine a quick patch to fix those issues will be out eventually. The other issue is when I go to move or edit a layer it will sometimes disappear altogether with no explanation, with no way to get it back. There's also an issue that I'm not sure if is a mistake or we were simply misinformed, but there are bases you can use for career mode if you aren't interested in the idea of painting your own, however I read (More than once place) we would be able to recolor them to our liking. So far unless I and several other people I've spoken to are just missing it, you are stuck with the default colors on each base.

The graphics are solid. There are a lot of last year and this year's schemes to choose from. To me it's a nice improvement over Inside Line and if they patch the paint booth which has where I've found the most issues, it will become an extremely hard game to put down. They definitely need to patch some things and I can certainly understand wanting to see if they fix the error, but so far nothing has been game breaking for me.

I got my copy of NASCAR '14 today when my dad came home, To be honest i wasn't excepting him to get it so soon after i told him about it when the Trailer was on TV last week since i'm not able to get games as much as some other people are able to, But he bought it, So it was a nice surprise. i got the PS3 version btw.

Anyways, I'm doing track test to get used to the controls & such before i start doing races in NASCAR '14.

Thankfully my Racing Wheel is compatible with the game, So thats good to know. :D
