I think NASCAR as far as Safety of driver and crews is doing all it can as far as Safety there is nothing they can really do about fires.

Well, when you have cars running with gasoline (which is a highly flammable fuel for those who didn't know), you have to expect the occational fire. NASCAR has done about all they can do to make everything as safe as possible. And , judging by the fact that nobody has been injured in these situations recently, they seem to have done a good job.

A few fires every year is not uncommon. If it was, there wouldn't be that regulation requiring all drivers, crew and media reporters to wear fire protective clothing during the race.

I remember a few years back that every time a car backed into the wall it would burst into flames. Compared to then, we hardly have any fires now, and when there are, the driver comes out just fine.

Yea, we had the biggest fire in years if not ever at Daytona and no one was hurt so I don't think its a problem when 1 CAR catches fire. Another jet dryer, then you might have to think about something.

I think I'd feel safer in a Nascar than out on the public streets/roads in my car.

NASCAR is at the forefront of safety, I have no concerns for drivers or my own safety while at a track.

To tell you the truth. A lot of fires that have happened in the last 10 years. most of them have been oil fires. Gas fires just do not slowly get bigger. They start with a big fire ball. Then get smaller. and usually burn out pretty fast. Judging by what I have seen this is a oil fire.

I remember back at the 2010 Coke Zero 400 in the big one, where there were like 3 or 4 cars on fire, and 5-time's crew helped Mark out've his car. And I would be concerned with my saftey at the tracks, even with the saftey inmprovements.

Well your much more likely to be hurt in your own home than anywhere else. I lived my whole childhood at race tracks with far less safety innovations then we have today, and I never left with more than a nose full of dirt. There are more injury's at Disney World than any race track, do you feel "concerned" about your safety there?

Electronic Fuel Injection. Watch the 2012 Budweiser Shootout again, there were more fires in that race alone than probably all of last year.

There were also Zero injuries or deaths. Gasoline and oil catches fire. Cars need both. Fires are inevitable.

EFI has nothing to do with it. The system NASCAR runs is whats known as 'throttle body injection', which is basically a carb/EFI hybrid. So its still a wet intake, meaning the fuel and air are mixed before hitting the manifold, which is no different than a carb.

If anything, the EFI would decrease the chances, eliminating the steps of fuel sitting in the float bowl and passing from the lines through the needle jets.

And aside from all of that, most of the fires you see on-track are caused by oil, not fuel.

So because event b (fires) took place after event a (EFI system implemented), event a therefore caused event b.

I'm not going to go the snarky route. I'll just say your reasoning here is exceedingly faulty. Some proof to backup the claim that EFI = more fires would be helpful.

I agree as most fires do not start in the intake or as a result of detention in the combustion chamber. These fires happen after catastrophic terminal failure that blow open the block or oil pan discharging oil/fuel, or an accident where mechanical debris or foreign objects disconnect fluid lines. Fires were around before EFI and there is no evidence to say its the cause of any of this.
