Caution 1: Lap 18
The drivers just got finished with green flag pit stops when Mike Skinner (#10) made contact with Skyler Tool (#79, me) that brought out the only caution in turn 2. Dave Blaney (#23) and Boris Said (#01) were also collected in the crash. All drivers involved in the crash retired.
The race went caution free from there and Tony Stewart (#20) was able to win. Jeremy Mayfield (#19) held on to finish second, while Dale Jarrett (#88) finished third.
Thanks! I got into the back of Skinner in turn one. I passed him, then he got into the back of me and wrecked me. Probably some ai retaliation(y)
Anyways, I had a really bad pit stop which put me there in the first place. I was running with the leaders until that happened. First I "missed" pit road the first time and then overshot my pit stall when I finally came the second time. By the time the crash happened, the leaders were heading into turn one. Guess that's what you expect from racing with "underdogs".
The race's first caution came on lap 31. Dale Earnhardt Jr (#8) ran into the back of Larry Foyt (#14) in turn three. The crash would also collect Brian Vickers (#25). Unfortunatly, Junior and Foyt would retire, while Vickers continued with minor damage.
The second caution came on lap 43 when John Andretti (#1) blew an engine and then spun out by (#09) Johnny Benson. (#30) Johnny Sauter was damaged as well. Benson and Sauter would later be involved by a stackup under caution. Benson and Sauter barreled at full speed into the slower cars at the backstretch after they just pitted. The crash sidelined the two drivers, while (#6) Mark Martin and (#2) Rusty Wallace, who where the other cars involved, continued with minor damage. (Sorry, no image taken of the crash.)
The race would then have a very long green flag run. (#24) Jeff Gordon, (#42) Jamie Mcmurray, (#17) Matt Kenseth, and (#48) Jimmie Johnson dominated most of that run.
Caution came out on lap 184 for debris. Bobby Labonte (#18) stayed out under this caution. This would not work because he pitted one lap after the restart, but with everyone else making their final stops around lap 192-195 he ended up finishing fifth.
However it was Jimmie Johnson that cruised to an easy victory to win the 46th Daytona 500!
