So since I have a new PC, I implusively decided to buy a copy of NBA 2K11 to push it to its limits performance-wise, and I also got a Logitech Gamepad F310 in order to accomodate the crazy amount of control this game gives a player. Also, I do have some interest in the NBA since I've watched the Lakers since my very early childhood in the late 80s, and played basketball growing up all through grade school & college. While I no longer played organized basketball, I'm still an avid fan and analyst of the game, but I digress.

In terms of performance, my system consisting of an AMD Phenom X4 820 Processor (2.8Ghz quad core), ATI Radeon HD 5450 graphics card (512 MB internal memory), and 6GB of RAM is having no problem running the game with all graphics settings tuned to their respective maximum setting. After years of running even NR2003 at less than its max, this pleases me. It also answers a few questions since the system requirements listed on the game's box lead me to believe that my system possibly wouldn't be able to run 2K11 at its max capacity.

So while I can see everything quite smoothly, the game itself IS INSANE! Granted I haven't played a video game-style game with all sorts of buttons and sticks in years, but holy freaking crap. The last video game platform that I owned was Nintendo 64, when a 360 stick on the controller was considered revolutionary. Now I have 2 sticks, and more buttons than my poor hands know what to do with. Then, when I think I've remotely got a handle on what to do, the AI is CRAZY! Even at rookie difficulty level, I'm shooting under 20% from 3pt range with the best 3pt shooters in the NBA today. So that's kinda frustrating, but this is a learning process. Maybe one day I'll be able to actually do what the game developers envision the end user being able to do.

One of the things that I like to do with any game is to keep it current. NR2003 is an example of that. We all want to keep that current, or else we wouldn't be here. NBA 2K11 is pretty current, but not 100%, and as the NBA preseason goes, it'll drift farther and farther from 100%. This bring me to something I have seen but don't fully understand calling "living rosters." The game claims to be able to download updated rosters that I guess God has maintained accurate to the precise second that I click the import button. Only problem is, when I go to import the updated rosters, it warns me that I'll wipe out the current rosters being used. So, why should I spend a great deal of time keeping the rosters, rotations, and all the other edits that the game allowed me to do myself current, if I'm just going to download this every day? What's the best way to ensure a 100% current NBA 2K11 game?

In terms of realism, I'm glad that I can play full 12 minute quarters with realistic bench rotations, and have the score wind up realistic and not 268-214 like NBA games that I have played in the past. The realism seems as if, if it's going to error anywhere, it'll be on the side of being so realistic that it's not possible to just pick it up and be amazing. Sounds like NR2003, does it not? This also pleases me. It's more satisfying, to me at least, to have to work at being able to do what the real athletes do on the court, rather than just flip on the on switch and suddenly turn into Kobe Bryant. While I have a lot of learning to do, in the end, it'll make for some of the same really fun moments that years upon years of experience racing NR2003 have made.

Finally, I'd like to issue a big FAIL to both Target and GameStop for not having either the game, or the controller, when I went to both of them yesterday. Where did I find my stuff? Of all places, Best Buy - a place I thought had regarded PC software a low priority years ago. And yet, they had what I wanted, and the other two did not. So Best Buy now has some more dollars to spend on sponsoring Richard Petty Motorsports. :)

So who else is exploring this game? The whole Michael Jordan thing is kinda neat, but it's not why I bought the game. I just wanted to have an NBA sim to play similar to how I use NR2003. Nevertheless, the recreation of some moments in NBA history is fun, and the challenges certainly are that. Perhaps this thread can be a home where many can share their respective NBA 2K11 odysseys, and any helpful tidbits and lessons that they've learned along the way.

I'm looking to get it after I start working again, and I'm really looking forward to it. The last NBA game I had was NBA Live 2004.....yeah.... lol
