Ok, so I recently got back into playing NBA 2K12. But I am running into small problems. First I don't know what game type to use. Casua is way too easy on scoring since alsmost every shot scores and with default I have pretty low scores in my 7 minute quarters. Also I don't know whether to use Shot Stick timing or Real Player % for Shooting and FT type.

Another problem that I always had is that I have absolutely no clue about defense. Most times I simply stand in front of the opponent trying to steal the ball.

Also I rarely manage to make my players dunk. Even when I press RT and X while sprinting towards the Basket the players prefer to throw instead of dunking. Probably that is because I rarely have a free way into the zone.

I just need a little bit of "beginners advice" to enjoy the game more.

NOTE: Please do not tell me to increase quarter length to help avoid the low scores, I don't have time for more than 7 minute quarters.

I've been playing the game a LOT since it came out and I can tell you about it.

Personally, I like medium length quarters, about 8, and I play on pro - all-star. I use the default game style. For shooting, I use shot stick timing. If you're having trouble shooting, try making some good passes and getting open, then when you shoot, just release when you're at the top of the jump.

For defense, it took me a while to get the hang of it. I try to steal when they try to dribble around you and do all that, but normally I'll foul them, lol. Just guard closely and when they pass it, try to lunge in front and steal it.

Lastly, for dunking, you might want to use the stick for it. If you can get an opening, burst through and you'll get the dunk. If not, you'll probably get fouled or get a layup.

That's all I can tell you, I hope this helps!

Thanks for the tips. But some small things still bother me. I try a 3 pointer with Jason Kidd, have a Shot Quality of A and he still misses while the AI almost hits everything (I play on pro)

Yeah you'll be much happier with your outside shooting if you use real player %ages. If your shot stick timing isn't at least matching real world stats, which it sounds like it isn't in your case, go with the real player %.

On the defensive front, just get in their way and let them screw up. Don't always feel like you must try to steal the ball. This is how people play real defense, and it applies in the game as well. Get in their way, mess up their play, then go after the shot and the board.

With dunks, go into the drills mode, follow the directions, and practice.
