So this time, I have the AI set to 98%, which is perfectly competitive, the Revamped papi_ai, and the expert setup. But when I start the race, within 4 laps I am spinning, and crashing.

My problem is that when we are all bunched up like this, there is so little room for error that I tense up, and make every error possible. Missing my brake points, turning too hard, sliding up the track, getting loose, missing shifts, and many more.

What can I do, besides starting in the back, to make my restarts safe until everyone thins out, and I can dig in for position?

Track is Las Vegas at the moment, but I was having this problem at Phoenix too... :(

So far my season has gone like this:
Daytona 500 - Wrecked on lap 85 by the 14. (I was in 6th)
Subway Fresh Fit - Wrecked on lap 261 by the 29. (I was in first)

And all of those happen on restarts! D:

I know it may just sound like I am a piss poor driver, but I really dont think thats it. Once everyone is in 1 lane, I can drive it like no tomorrow! I can even have 3 wide battles with people through the whole track, but not after we just go green... then I panic...

restarts can be hard, especially late in races with a lot of lap cars on the inside. You gotta get heat in the tires and stay out of trouble. Its not easy, just takes practice and a lot of patience. After ten years I still dread restarting mid pack. If I feel the AI is gonna dive to my inside I just let them and pray its not gonna put me three wide on the exit of the turn. Try to remember you can drive back around them once you gain some grip in the tires.

If I feel the AI is gonna dive to my inside

WHICH THEY ALWAYS F*****G DO!

Anyway, I think I might just hang off the car in front of me for a bit, and just brake early. If they want to get around me, they can find a way to do so. Though that usually ends up with the AI using a bump n' run if I am in their way...

Still, I qualified 23rd for Vegas, and I just cant seem to get through the initial green flag panic! :(

Yup. :/ Guess I will just have to wreck out of this race too if it comes to that, till I can get somewhere like Southern Cali for the Auto Club race where I can really open up, and lead like a pro! :D

Re the start of the race: remember that you can't win the race on the first lap, but you can sure as hell lose it. Patience really is a virtue here. Of course, restarts late in the race are a whole different deal.

There is absolutely no way for this to work...

I even tried cheating, and throwing the yellow right as the race started, so we could get a single file start, but then this just happens over and over and over!

WHY?! - YouTube

I am seriously pissed off, and this computer is two seconds from being "gravity tested" out my 3rd story apartment window! :-/

Just wondering, but are you running career mode? I'd like to know cause I'm running BRcup12 with Career mode, but I'm stuck on all the old tracks. :c (Yes, I know it's very off topic)

You came down on Stewart. If you would have stayed high, you would have been fine.

@Killer: You can use a program like RPM or Score4 for a full season or career. Much more realistic. Just search Race Points Manager and Score4 here for the programs, and what they do.

looks like you might want to slow down the AI on restarts or get yours faster. Can you post your gear ratios? Are you manually shifting?

Thats not really the point, the point is that every time I even try to remotely have any sort of restart, they all just freight train to my inside, then I pass them all again 3 - 5 laps later because they're all slower.

@Killer - Use NR2003 Season Editor, make your own schedule, and boom.

@hijinx - Transmission Ratios: (Yes, in manual.)
1st - 2.625
2nd - 1.875
3rd - 1.286
4 - 1.000

Making the final drive ratios:

1st - 9.516
2nd - 6.797
3rd - 4.661
4th - 3.625

Seems like they are catching you a lot when they shift up to the next gear.

What gear are you starting in?

These are my ratios for Vegas Revamped, give them ago and see if it helps get you getting a little more speed heading into turn 1 so they cant get under you so quick.

Diff Ratio- 3.688

1st - 2.000
2nd - 1.524
3rd - 1.208
4th - 1.000

Thats not really the point

That's exactly the point. You were in the high line, left the bottom open and someone took that line.

Stay high, let them pass you and fight another day. Or, come down on them, wreck yourself and come to these forums and bitch about it. Which might I add I'm tired of seeing as I'm sure others are.

You're impatient. You need to learn to just finish a race first. Finish races, then try to win one if you're in position to do it.

I'm starting in 2nd to prevent much wheel spin. Let me give those a try.

@Matt - I wasnt trying to show off my amazing wrecking skills, I am trying to ask what I can do about the AI heading into the corner like that, and catching me off guard. You may be sick of my posts asking for help, and I am sick of your posts beating me down for asking, so looks like we are on level ground here.

@Hijinx - Not sure if that worked, but it sure made my car a hell of a lot quicker. It seems to me, they have an insanely fast entry, but I just fly by them through the middle, exit, and straights.

We're pretty far from level ground here.

Your looking for every other scenario that is wrong for an explanation as to why you keep wrecking.

To many of us who race online, it's obvious. It's you that's the problem. It's your impatience. It's your lack of practice. It's your lack of track awareness. It's a whole lot of you and less about track ini files, and AI who do the same exact thing lap after lap. If you can't figure out the habits and tendencies of the AI, your hopeless with real drivers.

Start looking at what you can do to prevent wrecks as oppose to throwing flags, tweaking track files, and adjusting the AI to prevent you from wrecking.

I've raced online, (iRacing only) I know I came down on him, but it wasn't to show that, it was me asking why they can get so fast into the corners, but I can out drive them through every part of the track. Whatever, I'll just stop looking for help if it's annoying people.

Keep practicing and start working on the setup, it will come with time. Remember patience and tire heat go a long way.

Thanks for your help Hijinx, I really appreciate you keeping with me, and not being annoyed by my questions. Hopefully I can figure this out. :/

As long as its not the same old, same old threads that get posted about repetitive nonsense, I am glad to try and help. The search function here at SRD is also a wealth of knowledge. You would be surprised how much good stuff is archived here. Fun to spend time reading through some of the informative old threads, might wanna give them a look.

I kind of get what you are saying Jet. You really just need to work with your setup, but Matt's theory of patience is still something to practice at the same time. I have been wrecked many times due to my imparience. Sometimes you need to let them pass, or just block them into the corners. The AI are tough to understand sometimes, but run hours of practice at a track and you can pick up on their actions very well. Anyway, good luck man. I don't mind the questions too much, as long as they are worth reading.
