My old hard drive just completely crashed on me which I had my NR2003 stuff on (paints, temps, logos, etc.), but since it was going bad I could only use it in safe mode. (I played the game on my desktop) I was wondering if there was any possible way to transfer the files to my new hard drive and be able to play since my laptop works better than my desktop and is also newer. I had gotten the game for christmas when it first came out, but have lost it (broke) in a recent move.

EDIT: Also would be going from XP to Vista.

p.s. - I did search here but the only post I found didn't help me. so please don't :google_it_noob:

Any help would be appreciated!! :)

Bump.... Anybody have any ideas? I have the whole CD copied on my other hard drive (yes it is legit. Did it for backup purposes because of the CD). Is there some possible way that it could be pulled off even though I cant use it on my computer because of a corrupted file?

No expert/in lieu of bump. If your hdd crashed (physically broke) I think you're hooped. If the OS corrupted, you might be able to read files on an another XP system, and then copy/transfer files to Vista.

The short: can't say for sure.

Have you tried plugging into another XP machine? That would be what I would try. I've tried recovery software. They work as well as miracle hair growth lotions, & scratch removers. Might try checking on a tech forum. MajorGeeks comes to mind.

EDIT: My understanding is that, broken hdds can be given to pro's to recover data but, it's cost-prohibitive for the average user.

I do believe that there is a way to do this.

I am not sure how to do it myself.

I recommend going to a computer technology forum.....those people can be very helpful on stuff like this.

http://www.tech-forums.net/

Maybe someone on the site above can help you out.....good luck and I hope you can retrieve all of your stuff.

I have been keeping all of my downloaded mods....cars....tracks....everything on a dvd.

1. Hd is from a desktop computer?

2. If it still works, you can get an enclosure and cable for it. I have 4 older Desktop Hd's I use for storage and backing up of files. They connect and read like a extra drive without any problems at all. Hard Drive Enclosure,Hard Drive Enclosures

3. If the Hd still works, and you get an enclosure, the file transfer copy/backup will not be an issue anymore.

Ok, yeah I read that too. And also it was the Hd on my laptop, which was running Vista also. And does anybody have an idea of how much it would cost to take it to a computer place and get stuff off it.
