Hey racefans,

I am not as big of a race fan as I was back in the 90's but after stumbling on to a
patch and some mods on the internet for Nascar Racing 2003, I decided to dust off my copy
and reinstall it. I got very excited when I discovered that I could download seasons and carsets from the 90's! I am, with all things considered, technologically challenged and do not know what to do with these fantastic downloads. Any help would be very much appreciated.

Thanks in advance and, "GENTLEMAN, START YOUR ENGINES!"

I want to add the 1990 carset mod to my game. I don't have the ability to open RAR files so that is not an option. So from start to finish, what do I need to do? I downloaded a 1990 mod, (I think it was Pits?) and followed a youtube tutorial with where to place the files and change them too, and when I ran the game, only the original cars were available. I even checked the "rosters" link and there was nothing there?

I want to add the 1990 carset mod to my game. I don't have the ability to open RAR files so that is not an option.

Well....it is essential you get WINRAR because if you are going to get files, most files are either RAR'ed or ZIP'ed..and RAR does both...RAR is available from many sources in a 40 day trial, which afterwards you can still use the trial version, but it won't be the full version.

So from start to finish, what do I need to do? I downloaded a 1990 mod, (I think it was Pits?) and followed a youtube tutorial with where to place the files and change them too, and when I ran the game, only the original cars were available. Ok..for the "Car" files, they should go into C: (whatever drive the game is installed on)\Papyrus\NASCAR Racing Season 2003\series\Cup90_cup\cars.

Note on these sites you will find 2 types of files: 1)the .car files, which is the whole shabang including the car and driver ratings, and 2) the .tga files, which only includes the paint schemes for the cars. The .tga files work for the cars in the export/import folder, and will not work in the .car folder.

Let me know if that helps any.

Canadienhits, I followed your directions and I still am not seeing the 1990 cars in the game. I actually downloaded a set from NR2K3 car and mod list that I only had to unzip. After placing the files in the apropriate folders I ran the game and again, I only had the option of the cars that come with the game. The file was a ".cts.car" file if that means anything to you. Perhaps that will change the procedure a little bit?

Thanks for the help

There's your problem. You probably downloaded the cup version, not the cts version.

O.K., now I feel stupid now. So I should just make sure to download cup files? The confusing thing is that Dale Earnhardt's #3 car is in this file. Did he drive trucks too or did someone just create trucks that mimic the cars?

Thanks

You need to install the patch before anything...it can be found here at SRD.

If you mean patch 1.0.2.1 or whatever I have already downloaded it. I think it said something about the patch fixing some bugs and allowing the game to accept the use of mods. Is that what you mean?

Yep. Then install the mod...to your C:\Papyrus\NASCAR Racing 2003 Season\series folder by default. I think the Cup90 mod comes with cars...not sure but the .car files go into your C:\Papyrus\NASCAR Racing 2003 Season\series\cup90\cars folder. That should work. Oh and don't forget to use the arrows at the bottom of the main menu to switch between mods ;) hope this helps.

I don't see any arrows for mods at the bottom of my main menu for the game. Is that supposed to be there after I load the patch? That is probably why I can't find the cars. I have the patch so why is this not showing up for me? It is probably something that I did wrong, any Ideas? I don't know what I missed.

P.S. It is the 91' carset not the 90' carset that I downloaded. And what did you mean to add the mod carset "by default?"

Thats the default location where the game installs. Here's how to do it step-by-step:

1. Install the game.
2. Install the patch 1.0.2.1
3. Install the Cup90 mod.
4. Look at the car files in the C:\Papyrus\NASCAR Racing 2003 Season\series\Cup90\cars folder and tell me weather they are cts or cup. Ex: Earnhardts car will be 1990_3_goodwrench.cts.car. This will either be cts (like the example) or cup and tell me which it is.
5. Look at the '91 cars and if they match (cts or cup) they should work.
6. You should be able to switch mods, and see the '91 carset along with the '90 cars too.

Hope THIS helps!

Thanks alot guys! I do have the cars now, however they are mixed with the original in game cars. How do I solve this? Do I make a new folder and how do I label it?

Fantastic response times guys!!!!

EDIT: Some of the cars have dark gray in areas where it appears there should be another color. What's up with that? Also, there are roster names with all the tracks listed as the roster I.D.

^ Just make a new list in the in-game opponent manager, select your new 90s cars, then check "Display Active Drivers Only."
