New Painters Thread?

I noticed that 8/10 people that sign up here post about painting in their first or second posts. My suggestion is that someone (I could even do it) throw together a short post to sticky in the welcome thread, about painting and how to start. Nothing too in depth, just what programs are available (for free), how to open and use a template, and where to find them. I figure it would be a pretty good asset to the forums, and would really keep away some of the repeat painting posts. Any opinions?

EDIT: Maybe incorporate a link to it in the register area, so people know its there and don't miss it.

It's a really good idea, but like the screenshot thread, how many would actually read them? I'm willing to bet they'd still post regardless if there was one or not. Not saying this a bad idea at all because it's really neat but there's still gonna be plenty of people not reading and asking anyways

I agree Ty, I am not sure how you can make sure they read it, but its worth a shot if we can figure it out.

I say go for it. Make a simple tutorial on how to paint a car. And if you guys help me out, when that question get's asked, if I am not around, simply throw the link up to the tutorial.

There is a tutorial section that has pretty much almost everything you need to know to paint a car.

Yeah Josh. This probably wont be a full tutorial, but more or less a starting point. Just so people know ehere to get resources, how to open them, and the complete basics of how they work. You cant really teach someone to design a car. They have to go out and learn that on their own.

In my opinion, if the new guys want to come here and be successful at painting, they will read the tutorials(on SRD now), and try it out. Just like I did, 2 years ago. I also asked people, and I will bet everyone on the crew here will bend-over backwards to help the new guys, if they put forth an effort.

I agree with Sam on this one, it takes time to learn but this thread is a good idea.
