Welcome to SRD! The folder is usually: C:\Papyrus\NASCAR Racing 2003 Season\series\whatever mod you downloaded the cars for\cars
Some car sets have .exe files that extract directly to the correct folder.

You can as long as the folder is still named cars.

The mod is the important part. The cts mod makes it race more like the trucks. The driver update is good if you don't want your driver to be short. All the other files are for painting your own cars. It's up to you to decide what you want to download. Just make sure you download one of the mods and then you can view and race the cars you just downloaded!

Here is a great tool for doing ratings. NRatings
It has been my pleasure to help you as you learn how to do stuff with this amazing game!

What I like to do is separate all my carsets as their own "mods". This makes it easier to micromanage entry lists as well as use my own driver ratings without having to sift through 300 other cars. If I run a league that runs a certain mod, I'll leave the folder and dat names alone, to ensure there are no conflictions when I try to race online.

For instance, if I download a 01 carset using the default Papyrus cars mod, I'll make a copy of the cup folder and rename the copy to cup01, then go into that older, and rename the cup.dat to cup01.dat. Then you'll want to go into the series.def folder and under the line that says "given_name=" I'll change the name to something like "NASCAR Cup 2001 Series". This line is what determines what the mod is called in-game in the main menu where you have the mod toggle at the bottom.

Just keep in mind that the folder name and the dat file must be the same or it won't work. The cars folder where the cars go in within that series folder has to remain "cars". There is also a limit of how many different series mods you can have. I believe it's something like 12. The event of going over this limit even if you separate everything however is very slim.

Keep in mind that for a series to work the following has to be true:

- The folder name within the series folder (for instance, BRcup) and the *.dat folder within that folder have to match.
- There must be a *.dat folder so the game knows what body style that mod runs, otherwise the cars will not show up (or it may even crash when you try to switch to that series)
- There must be a series.def file (no matter the name of the mod, this file must always be named series.def). This is what tells the game which classes are allowed, what name the game reads the mod as (keep in mind, in the def file the name can be different than the name of the series folder, where the *.dat file has to be the same), and this also tells the game which physics this carset will use. Also, keep in mind, the actual car files within the "cars" folder must match the same physics type as the mod uses, or the cars will not show up. To determine what physics your cars use, look inside the cars folder within the series and if it's a cup physics car it will say something like "sample.cup.car", if it's a BGN physics car it will say "sample.bgn.car" and if it's a CTS physics car it will say "sample.cts.car". If the cars you downloaded are different than the physics the mod uses (since different mods are available in different physics types) you can use the car changer to change the cars to any physics of your liking, but it must match the physics the mod uses.

I hope this helps you understand the basics of how carsets and mods work in NR2003! Enjoy the game!

yea i'm starting to realize all of the things now when you try to put seperate cars in the folders like for example most cars people make are for .cup.car for the 2011 series while i have the .cts.car files for mine. And 4wide i want to use that but i heard it is really complicated and what not lol.

Here is a link you will probably find useful. Downloads - Utilities - 2003. NR2003 Car Converter I haven't tried it but it sounds easy.

If you want to use real life ratings, if not you can manually change them or use the bulk modifier.

yea i ended up doin the real life ratings and then when my friend finishes building me a desktop i will probably do the car converter thing. My game is already starting to lag since its on a laptop so i'm gonna keep it where its at right now so i have an actual nascar sim to play since nascar 2011 the game got boring now.
