Ah...Zippy, the piece of the puzzle no one's really touched on. Him and Stewart are still the longest standing Driver-Crew Chief duo, currently in Cup.

Silly Season is really shaking up. Here's my take on the rumor mill

1 - Truex leaves...

12 - Mears/Stremme

14 - Stewart

20 - Loganao

21 - Wood

33 - Truex Jr.

44 - Shuts down (no ups, Reut leaves)

45 - Reut

70 - Newman (w/ Jack Daniel's)

07 - Bowyer (UPS)

? - Ambrose (JTG Racing goes cup)

If Bowyer gets UPS, I think RCR will go back to the 30. And Stewart Haas can have the 07 for Jack Daniels.

According to NASCAR Now if Stewart left at the end of year he could take no one from JGR, including Zippy. I think Zippy will stay. I think he'll go to a Team Manager Roll like Jimmy Makar.

I think this is bigger than Dale Jr leaving DEI last year.

I do too...there's more implications across the board with Tony's deal.

I think he's jumping the gun with Newman though....if I were Tony I would be all over Truex and Bass Pro. Who really knows though, maybe these things have already been gone through and Newman is the one who turned out to be the winner.

Interesting, to say the least.

Yes indeed, everything is very interesting as of thus far. I really hope that Stewart will go with the #14, as it is a multiple of 7 (which is my lucky number by chance, not by going with the flow). And very very true about Truex Jr...he's been driving Chevy's a long time, Newman has been in a Dodge since he started at cup level, I know it seems silly to bring it up but Truex does have more experience with Chevy's, but from what I know has a good relation with Stewart as well (plus Tony already sports Bass Pro Shop logos on his Cup and NWS rides). And though Newman won the Daytona 500, it was lucky as all hell, he's a really unlucky driver; just look at the Coca-Cola Zero 400...involved in 3 ACCIDENTS! I love how he said we got ran down by drivers with no talent...umm...what? If you're in Cup level (save the open wheel jokers) then you gotta have some talent. Oh well, that's my brain vomit for the evening, also keep a look for my newest cars in the showroom section sometime later, pretty pretty please? Thanks :cute:

I'm going to plea for my own sanity and ask everyone to please keep this thread solely about Tony Stewart and Stewart/Hass Racing related discussion. If you want to talk about other silly season senarios, please start other threads for different teams/drivers and their potential 2009 plans. My headache and I thank you very much! :)

Here's an update to keep things current:

Jayski.com said:
Stewart Expected to Name Car Number, Sponsors on Friday: UPDATE: Tony Stewart has finalized his car number and sponsors for next season, his first as co-owner of Stewart HAAS racing. Stewart will drive the #14 car the number once campaigned by his racing hero, A.J. Foyt. Old Spice and Office Depot will sponsor the Chevys. Old Spice is a long-time Stewart sponsor in Nationwide Series. Office Depot will be moving to Stewart from Carl Edwards' Roush Fenway car. An official announcement will be made Friday at Indianapolis Motor Speedway.(Cup Scene Daily)(7-22-2008)
UPDATE: Haas CNC Racing general manager Joe Custer has applied for his team to trademark the #14, which is expected to be the number next season for Tony Stewart, who will co-own and drive for Stewart-Haas Racing beginning in 2009. The trademark application covers a variety of products – everything from paper goods to luggage, knives, air fresheners, video featuring racing themes and several other items. The application was filed July 2, according in the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office database
