Hi there.
I'm asking this around at a number of sites in hopes of getting as much input as possible, so if you see this same subject by me elsewhere, and you respond here, you can ignore the other places.

I look forward to hearing any & all ideas, suggestions & thoughts.

I'm in need of some help here before I pull out what little hair I have left.

Here's what I've done:
Created a new folder called: NR2003 Roadies.
Fresh install of NR2003.
Installed the 1.2.0.1 Patch.
Installed the PWF Cup Damage.
Installed the PWF GNS Mod.
Installed the PWF GNS Volumetric Shadow Fix.
Installed the PWF Truck Mod.
Installed the IROC Mod.
Installed the PWF IROC Model Fix.
Installed the PWF TA Mod.
Installed the OWR v1 Mod.
Installed the OWR07 Mod.
Deleted from series folder: GNS, CTS & IROC folders.

No other add-ons (sounds, tracks, cars, etc.)

The only 'mods' in this particular installation are the default 'CUP' one, PTA & OWR (beta & '07).

What it does:
I can run both testing and single races with the PTA mod. I haven't tried a full 'Season' yet because, with the OWR mod, I seem to be able to run Practice sessions until my eyes bleed, but as soon as I select 'Single Race' and click the 'Race' button (after letting everything load so that I'll be at the back of the field) it crashes to the desktop (CTD).

The other odd glitch I've noticed (and this is a totally new one separate from the CTD that caused me to do a fresh install in the 1st place) is that the trans seems to falter coming out of 1st gear for a while before it finally 'catches' (for testing purposes I'm using a joystick and an automatic trans).

I don't know if it's some corrupted .car file or some setting in the .ini I don't know about or ...?

So...thoughts? Any help...and I mean any at this point would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
'Sage'

By the way, this is the only mod I'm having a problem with. I've got 4 different installs of NR2K3: Original(CUP/Cot/CTS/GNS), Dirt (CUP/Whelen/Outlaws), Oldies (CUP/GN63/GN70/GN70SS) & Roadies (CUP/PTA/OWRv1[I don't really play this one...I only installed it because I read somewhere that it might need to be installed prior to OWR07]/OWR07).

John,

It doesn't happen when I launch the game, but every time I try to 'Race' using the OWR mods (either beta/v1 or '07) it'll CTD. As I said, I can practice to my hearts content. That's sort of leading me to a corrupted/coded wrong .car file. Or maybe something in an .ini.

Oh yeah, something I forgot to mention previously...it doesn't matter which track I try this at...it'll always CTD @ 'Race'. I'm using the default OWR Indianapolis track for testing purposes (trying to stay comparing apples-to-apples, as it were).

John,

The OWR beta/v1 mod came with OWR sounds and a sound swapper. I'll try pulling those and see if that makes a difference.

Nope. Tool out the OWR sounds and the sound swapper and it CTD @ 'Race'. I do appreciate the suggestion though.

I did find 4 .car files that weren't in the .lst file but that didn't change anything either.

I guess I was just hoping that someone else had the same problem and either found or was told a solution. I'll keep plugging away though. I'm kind of pit bullish that way.

So you can see the AI cars on track when you practice?

How big is the owr07.dat ín the series folder? I've never run the mod (so I might have the exact same problem :p) but when I install it the .dat is 22.157MB.

Use Winmip, and the Car File Editor..... go through the cars, and open them with Winmip.... if you come across a car that will not open in Winmip, then it is corrupted....

from what your describing it certainly sounds like a corrupt car file....

riviera71...My mistake. I was referring to 'Testing' when I said 'Practice'. I don't think I ever did that as I skipped straight to 'Race' when trying to get the game to CTD. My .dat file size is the same as yours.

dcoral...What an excellent idea. I'm pretty certain I would never have thought of that on my own. No need to do that as...

Ding! Ding! Ding! We have a winner!!!

Moose3's suggestion of turning off Shadows did the trick. Why something so simple could cause me so much grief is beyond me. I guess the next time I run into problems I'll start with turning everything 'Off' and then, incrementally , reapplying 'effects' until I recreate the problem. My only defense (if there really is one because I should have thought of turning all of the eye candy off initially ~ after all, it's no different, really, than diagnosing any other problem...whether it's a game, computers or an automobile) is that I didn't have any problems with the PTA mod. I was trying to compare apples to oranges and, from expierience, I should have known that that would never work.

'Thank You' to everyone that replied. I'll be saving this discussion and the results in one of my NR2003 info folders for future reference.

Now I guess it's time to go out and smash up some Indy cars.
Hmmm...where's Danica?

Maybe the GNS volumetric shadow fix messed up the OWR shadows or something like that.
