How do you make a flat ? I would appreciate someone explaining this in every day language. I am not a painter , but would like to learn . Thanks in advance .

So you want to paint a car?

Download GIMP (if you have PSP or PS use one of those)

Download a template and start painting. That's essentially all there is to it.

A 'flat', by definition, is nothing more than your 'paint' done on a layered template and then saved as a .jpg, .tga. .bmp, etc. When saved in one of those formats the layers are essentially flattened into one layer, hence the term 'flat'. Single layer files are what the game wants (a .tga, in the exports_imports folder, to be specific) to import via the Opponent Manager and what is needed for those spiffy renders you see everywhere.
