Beware of business with AT&T

I posted this in my league forum.

I highly encourage everyone that I know to change your service to another company if possible.

Though these times are all about monster mega corporations, word of mouth may not mean much but I intend to discourage business with this despicable company as much as possible to everyone I meet and know.

If anyone knows where I can have custom made magnets to go on my car that say "dont do business with AT&T" please let me know. Until then I'll probably use shoe polish on the windows.

This pathetic company is about greed and false statements and intentional misleading promises.

I fully intend to take my service elsewhere as soon as my contract is up.

My next car in this league will most likely be a anti-AT&T sponsored car.

ATT thinks they are to big for the customer. Their customer service sucks and I plan to spread the word.

AT&T Adjusts Data-Throttling Policy in Response to Customer Complaints | Gadget Lab | Wired.com

Problem is now ANY unlimited user going over 3gb is throttled.

Not a very well put together argument. You cant just ask people not to do business with someone. You can state your displeasure by giving us the facts on what happened and we could give you some feedback. Been my experience that people who feel they were done wrong tend to be blind to all the facts.

I tend to decide what companies to use based on price and my personal preferences not based on what someone on a forum says, unless they give some facts that make a great case for it.
I don't like AT&T for a few reasons and will not support them (I have Sprint) but I'm not going to tell someone to just switch because I think they should.

I also have some issues with Ford, maybe I should tell people to stop buying Fords........

If you want to make some bumper stickers there are articles online about it.

Can you be more specific on why AT&T is bad?

And yes when my family used to have it the TV and Internet signal would randomly go out once or twice a week, sometimes for 30 seconds, other times 30 minutes.

Doesn't happen with Time Warner.

As I see it, any negative publicity is getting the job done. This is why protest signs dont have a twelve page dialogue on them at rallies.

But Im glad you asked...

If you've watched the news lately then you've probably heard their new policy on throttled data usage for so called "unlimited data users". They are simply trying to bully those they promised unlimited data into tiered plans because of their poor planning and incapablilties. Their so called to policy is vague and inconsistent depending on usage and area. You can appeal but they pretty much tell you too bad and we don't care in so many words as they read a prescripted statement they are told to say to unhappy customers.

Thanks for missing the point though...I can always count on someone around here to critic every microscopic detail.

Who missed the point? Nobody was quite sure as to why you had something against AT&T. Now they know. They simply wanted details.

Personal Bias is not a reason to deter others from a service. Unless there was some serious backing behind like if they overcharged customers for there own profits or something.

Btw I'm not so much "telling" anyone what to do or who to do business with. That's your choice.

When you have good service some say "I like" and when you have bad you say "I dislike".

It's a simple as word of mouth. If it even puts a bit of positive or negitive thought in the back of anyone's head then it's effective.

Ask any company if they would like to hear this thread about them no matter how detailed it was. Answer would be no. Mission accomplished.

This really isn't the same format as a rally, we expect some reason to be given for why we should switch companies, it's not like Twitter where there is a cap on letters.

That is one reason I don't like AT&T.

Wow, with microscopic detail? Really? You just posted slander stating not to do business with them without any facts.

Sorry about your misfortune, but you didnt get any point across. If they breach the contract your free to back out of it legally.

Fair enough. I hope my explanation helped clear up any questions.

Forgive my frustration but it's been a long day and I can only type so much on a iPhone. :)

So they basically are not giving you unlimited data when they say they are and when you go over that certain amount they give you fees?

Yes but not fees. They throttle your data speed by 99% for the rest of the billing cycle. Turning your device into a brick, save voice.

Boost Mobile:

-Unlimited data
-No contract
-Sprint network
-Android phones
-$5 decrease in monthly cost for every 6 on time payments
-Can go as low as $35 a month

Just sayin'.

If that is in fact what they are doing and you have enough technical knowledge to prove it then file a complaint with the Better Business Bureau for false advertising. I am sure there are other people out there with the same treatment if you have your facts right, which means just like with Verizon if enough of you customers of their step up they will end up with a class action suite against them and be forced to pay and fix their policy. Cox and other ISP's ran into similar issues only a few years back. This is common practice by providers today, not saying its ok, but plenty of documented cases showing it.

What you should really find humorous about bandwidth is the whole cloud movement. Here they want you to store all your data on the cloud. They can hold so much data, your ISP however doesn't allow you to actually push that much data up. If you truly took advantage of the so called cloud you would find yourself in violation of your user agreement and service would be shut off. Most ISP's have a max data limit like phone company's. Some give you a warning the first time you cross it, others just drop you from service.

Any way I had ATT at one point I dropped them because my personal experience with them was horrible. They tried to charge me 400 dollars for some data usage at night @ 2 am i think it was. I had been gone for 10 months in Iraq so I know I wasn't using my phone that much when I first got back. The woman i spoke with told me it was internet use. I told her that wasn't possible, i have perfectly fine internet in my house, why on earth would i turn on my phone to use the crappy 3g service internet when I can walk down the hall and get on my high powered desktop with broadband. Made no sense, I refused to pay it, and after 2 months of arguing with them and notices I got them to drop it. I told them i was going to get a lawyer if they wanted to continue down the path of trying to force me to pay for services I didnt use. Then I left them 2 months later at the end of my contract. Had Sprint ever since. No complaints about bandwidth usage yet. Not saying Sprint doesn't have flaws or any other company. Just personal interaction made sure I would never deal with ATT again.
