I read that Sprint is the only one left with true unlimited data.

True. I don't mind a tier plan so much. If I have to go to one from my unlimited, I'm not staying with AT&T. Others throttle but not how AT&T does. Others throttle for the area and time if an area is having high data traffic. The throttle the top users to help everyone in the area. Att throttles it to a useless level and it's for the rest of the billing cycle no matter where you travel. So I could be the only user in an area and I will still be throttled.

They allowed everyone to have iPhones with unlimited data at first. Now they can't handle the traffic and they are trying to weasel their way out of those plans by underhanded and misleading tactics. Most would probably be ok with it if they just come out and say hey, no more unlimited. Sure some would leave but you have to be honest. Don't bully customers into limited data plans by limiting speeds to less than 1980s dial up.

If you're unhappy with a company's policies, cease doing business with them. If they're so bad, others will follow suit and the company will have no choice but the change their game. Especially in the cell phone arena, there are so many choices that consumers do have many options. That's why I'm on Sprint and would leave them if they pissed me off.

If that is in fact what they are doing and you have enough technical knowledge to prove it then file a complaint with the Better Business Bureau for false advertising. I am sure there are other people out there with the same treatment if you have your facts right, which means just like with Verizon if enough of you customers of their step up they will end up with a class action suite against them and be forced to pay and fix their policy. Cox and other ISP's ran into similar issues only a few years back. This is common practice by providers today, not saying its ok, but plenty of documented cases showing it.

What you should really find humorous about bandwidth is the whole cloud movement. Here they want you to store all your data on the cloud. They can hold so much data, your ISP however doesn't allow you to actually push that much data up. If you truly took advantage of the so called cloud you would find yourself in violation of your user agreement and service would be shut off. Most ISP's have a max data limit like phone company's. Some give you a warning the first time you cross it, others just drop you from service.

Any way I had ATT at one point I dropped them because my personal experience with them was horrible. They tried to charge me 400 dollars for some data usage at night @ 2 am i think it was. I had been gone for 10 months in Iraq so I know I wasn't using my phone that much when I first got back. The woman i spoke with told me it was internet use. I told her that wasn't possible, i have perfectly fine internet in my house, why on earth would i turn on my phone to use the crappy 3g service internet when I can walk down the hall and get on my high powered desktop with broadband. Made no sense, I refused to pay it, and after 2 months of arguing with them and notices I got them to drop it. I told them i was going to get a lawyer if they wanted to continue down the path of trying to force me to pay for services I didnt use. Then I left them 2 months later at the end of my contract. Had Sprint ever since. No complaints about bandwidth usage yet. Not saying Sprint doesn't have flaws or any other company. Just personal interaction made sure I would never deal with ATT again.

They have snaked their way through this with slick lawyers and contractual wording. It's not me. It's a fairly common complaint among smartphone users at AT&T. They have protected themselves well from class action. They claim they promised unlimited data, not speed. A public spokesman actually said that. It's flat out the wrong way to treat customers and insulting. They create contracts that let them change anything anytime they want without notification and agreement. Like a lot of EULA and other contracts, they create them open ended for their benefit. Only true way to stop this practice is to hit them where it counts. Hurt their business by going elsewhere and letting others know.

Exactly what I plan to do.

As stated, I plan to discourage others from doing business with them too if possible. Power in the masses.

I just got a new Verizon. No problems so far. I also know some people who work at Verizon. But I really don't care who's services I use, as long as I can get phone calls, I am happy. People at customer service are just doing their job, I assume. I don't know.

I don't use AT&T (and probably never will- I've never heard anything good of any of their services), but I have to ask how big of a deal the 3GB thing really is? So often when I go somewhere, there's wifi and my phone is asking me to connect to it. If I keep track of it, I'm on the wifi more often than my 3G to the point where I would really be surprised if I'm using 1GB a month.

Edit: I suppose I should add that I totally get they're advertising it as unlimited. I just really wonder how many people ACTUALLY would get close to the "limit"?

I was with Alltel for years before Verizon took them over awhile back. Verizon has went above and beyond to satisfy me. When I flipped my truck into the ocean two years ago they replaced all my equipment even my laptop which wasnt insured and they waved all the fees. Verizon as far as I can see will be with me for many more years.

My whole family had a very bad experience with at&t a few years ago when they took over Cell one. Thank god we use Sprint now. Clearly false advertising on their part.

Its really not false advertising. Did any one ready there contracts before they singed them. Most contracts for a service will have a paragraph or two about what i am about to say. Most go ____ company has the right to termite some or all services. With out with out prior knowledge. I bet that is in your contracts. Mind you I am not any way connected with at&t or a lawyer. Just that is what I just said is in most basic service contracts.

Also if your going over stop using it so munch its that simple. Are you really that munch of a narcissistic that you need to update you Facebook or twitter page every 5 minutes. When you home go on your computer, or use your wifi.

Before I get attacked yes I have a Facebook page. No I do not have a smart phone. I refuse to pay for some thing like that. I can wait 8 plus hours to get home to check what ever I need to.
