Brad, read:

I asked about that and was told with out the source files, theres a no go.

In other words your S.O.L. in that department.

I asked about a Le Mans mod though, same applies.

So as Raybee1970 told me (Cool dude btw, knows his stuff), you are better off making the mod from scratch.

ok, I will take the bait, one last time and reply...

Firstly, Raybee is correct, you do need source files, so you need co-operation from original mod builders. The problem with what you wanted to do (Lemans) is that PWF and redline aren't around to give you the source files. That is not the case with what you need here.

If you wanted to go through only one group to make getting access to source files easier, The Pits built a GN70 mod, an Aerowars 88 mod and I think they were behind the 1990 mod (although I'm not certain on that). I expect that someone over there has all the source files from enough mods to make it happen. Further, if they just need to unpack the dat file include existing car models (with damage etc), I would expect that this could be done in under a day, which is about 11 months and 29 days shorter than it would take to build from scratch (longer if I was to attempt it)..

Hence, they could do this for you without giving away their source files... But if you are sure it can't be done, I will let it go, because I'm not interested in using the mod myself anyway.

But, if the realism you are aiming for allows you to run around in COY bodies or 1990 mod bodies, does it seriously matter whether the wall on the track says Bristol, or California instead of Speedway of the South and Los Angeles???

Cheers

Brad

Some people like fictional tracks from racing movies and other games.

Hell, I wouldn't mind seeing 777 Speedway from Daytona USA in NR2K3, but thats just me.

Someone would need to model the rockwork and animate the slots, but other than that, it would probably be simple to do. The carset has already been made, too.

I really don't understand why people want the things they want in NR2003. It's totally unrealistic and wouldn't fit with the type of game NR2003 is. Rally cars, trophy trucks, drag cars, even motorcycles! This game is meant for stock car oval racing, even though some open wheel mods and dirt mods are great if they are done RIGHT.

I think you're best off with this Cars (video game) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

If you really want to race the tracks with the cars from the movie buy the video game... $0.99 on Amazon which is a bargain!

David, Its a game. We are modders (well most of us). We see a game and say, "I like it, but I want more...like this carset, and this series..." And what do we do? We make it and Share. And you cant mod that game, its for consoles. Restrictive. NR2k3 Isn't.

Adding Rally Cars, Trophy Trucks, Drag Cars and even motorcycles is a bad thing to me. Its an opportunity.

Let Imaginations run! Let Freedom Roar! Without the imagination, we wouldnt have the GTP, Trans Am, Late Models, etc.

Mods we all know and love and paint cars and create tracks for should be talked about and created. Plus, whats wrong in something different? I might not wanna play a pixar game. I rather play what I have.

So dont say its only for oval racing, cause then if it is, why do Sears Point and Watkins Glen in the Game?

Your right, if the mod is done right, its good. But theres nothing wrong with trial and error. (y)

I know it's just a game. Like I said I just don't understand some people's wants for this game. But if someone wants to make a mod based of a children's movie, okay cool. I'm not going to bad mouth it or boycott it. There's nothing wrong with it at all. I just won't care because I'm here for some realistic Nascar racing.

And ok. It's for oval racing +2 road courses. c.c

By the way in the link I posted it says the "Cars" game is for Windows platform, I don't know if that's true or not.

However I do agree with you. Not trying to get into an argument. Just explaining myself (y)

To expand that, this game is meant to simulate the physics of the Winston Cup cars from 2002, the physics of the Busch Grand National Series of 2003, and the Craftsman Truck Series from then as well. But today we're racing modern cars and trucks that obviously have a difference in physics compared to what this game was made for. Yeah, they're stock cars, but not the same ones the game was designed to simulate. And next year will even further cement that with the new styling and aero properties the cars will have. When it comes to modding, you're supposed to think outside the box, that's how you innovate and come up with new ideas.

Though Burnout is right, David said he's open to the idea.

Before we start arguing, let me remind everyone this was ORIGINALLY a thread about a track.

But if someone want to create the models and spend about 6 months on a track be our guests.

Honestly, I rather see some tracks rather than a mod. Mods are hard IMO where as tracks are easier, and theres tutorials on them.

I got pics from the game of your interested in me posting them! Sonics on the large rocks.

I know Daytona USA like the back of my hand, but thanks for the offer. :)

I have another track project at the moment, but IF (and only if) I can find someone that is willing to model the props (and can get them into NR2003, of course), I might consider making the track, itself.

I know the guy who did the Daytona USA mod for NR2K3. The cars use the Cup 90 mod. The mod comes with fan cars (One of them are mine) and cars from the other games.

Preach it brother.

I said something similar to this a couple years ago and it seemed to strike a nerve with some people.

Its one thing to create a mod that can be similiar or comparable to stock car racing. But some of this other stuff, like Rally cars, tracks with jumps, and all that kind of stuff just seems like a little much. And then of course, theres the 'lets try and create the biggest wreck we can and then take a bunch of pictures of it'.

I just think, if you're looking to play Grand Theft Auto, then you should probably go get Grand Theft Auto. Nr2003 isnt ever going to fully satisfy that desire.

This thread kind of seemed like a good example of that to me. Sometimes you see other threads that are about a good topic relating to the game, looking to discuss some useful info, and it gets all of 3-4 replies. Then a thread pops up about a children's animated movie (that my 5 year old daughter watches by the way), and the thread just keeps growing page after page. :confused1:

I dont know, maybe its just me, but it kind of seems like some of us take it a little overboard at times. When you really stop and think about it, creating a mod takes an immense amount of work and effort, and is very time consuming. Which is why theres only a select few that do it. And you want to delve into (or ask others to take on) that kind of project to try and recreate a children's animated movie? It just seems kind of crazy to me.

Not trying to step on anyones toes or anything like that. Just trying to put things into perspective a little. :)

The Pistion Cup Series is technacly (sorry for misspelling) a race-on-ovals/road course type series. Also, like I said earlier, if either project takes off, then I'll be patient and wait. Also, when looking for a pic of the track, there were captions on some of them saying 35 or 36 cars. Thats the same as a CWTS field on average.

Also, I don't remember the 84 car in-film having the Apple logo on the hood as Strip was passing him.

1. Lighning McQueen is a COT with a wing (SS.net COT)
2. Strip Weathers is a 70 Superbird (DMR 1970SS mod)
3. Chick Hicks is an square mid 80's (the pits? Aerowars 88) car - maybe a Chevy or a Buick?
4. All the rest don't really matter, so you could just pick something for them.

I don't know about anyone else, but that sounds like an awesome mod to me! :p
