It's that time of the season once again. The regular season is over, and it's time to battle for a championship. 12 drivers have fought all season to get in a position to win the championship, and it all starts at the short track of Iowa Speedway. Who will get their Playoff run off to a great start, and who will fall behind in the short track carnage?

All Playoff drivers will have colored splitters, banners, and spoilers, along with Round of 12/8/Championship 4 and SRD National Series Playoff contingency logos, as seen on Alex Seufert's car below.

Engines have fired and cars are rolling here at Iowa Speedway for the opening race of the 2018 SRD National Series Playoffs. A pair of non-Playoff drivers are on the front row, but you don't have to go very far back in the field to find the first Playoff driver, as John Rodriguez rolls off 4th tonight.

Armory Digital winner and defending Iowa race winner Jakub Smetana will lead the field to the green with Tyler Mallon alongside.

GREEN FLAG: Green flag is out at Iowa Speedway! Jakub Smetana and Tyler Mallon lead the charge to turn one. Looks like a pretty even start between the two.

Lap 1: LEAD CHANGE: Tyler Mallon keeps the car wound up on the outside line and will take the lead away from polesitter Jakub Smetana. Smetana continues to just barely hold on to positioning inside of Mallon as the head back to turn 1.

    TOP 10
    01. 93 Tyler Mallon
    02. 20 Jakub Smetana
    03. 57 Jackson Braun
    04. 45 Connor Root
    05. 32 John Rodriguez
    06. 9 Steven Merzlak
    07. 1 Nick Flaitz
    08. 30 Alvaro Torres
    09. 6 Sean English
    10. 2 Dewey Schramm

Any time there is a top 10 or full field rundown during a Playoff race, Playoff drivers will be in bold.

Lap 2: Mallon still holding tough in that outside line. He'll hold off Smetana for yet another lap. Another driver making up ground on the outside is John Rodriguez. He lost 5th to Connor Root on the opening lap, but he'll get back around the #45 as they head back to the line to complete lap 2.

One driver we noticed making up early ground on the bottom is co-points leader Dewey Schramm. He got by both Sean English and Alvaro Torres to jump up to 8th. Outside of Schramm's two wins this season, we haven't seen a lot out of that #2 team this season. Very surprising considering he started out the year on fire, and he's the only driver in the field with more than one win this season.

Lap 3: Mallon finally clears Smetana off of turn 2 and opens up a little bit of breathing room over Jakub Smetana. Looks like that outside line is starting to fade after the opening few laps. Connor Root got back around John Rodriguez for 4th, and now the #32 is under fire from Steven Merzlak for that 5th spot. Dewey Schramm sits and waits in 7th. Looks like Schramm might have the fastest car on the track very early on.

Already possibly a little bit of paint swapping going on just inside the top 10. Looks like Alvaro Torres and Nick Flaitz may have made a little bit of contact in turn 3 while battling for 8th. Tim Kunkel is also right there in that wad of cars.

Lap 4: Outside line definitely beginning to fade as Rodriguez loses 5th to Merzlak and now has Schramm to his inside for 6th. Rodriguez's teammate Alvaro Torres would be the next in line to take a spot away from the #32.

Lap 5: Torres overdrives the entrance of turn 1 and allows teammate Rodriguez to get down in line in 7th spot. In front of them, Dewey Schramm looks to chase down Steven Merzlak for 5th.

Lap 7: Things now beginning to settle down at the front of the field. Ray Tustin just got around Nick Flaitz for 13th, and the next battle behind them is for 20th between J.R. Franklin and Ryan Cole.

Lap 8: Tustin picks up another spot. This time he gets around Sean English for 12th. Up front, Tyler Mallon has opened up a lead of 7 tenths of a second over polesitter Jakub Smetana.

Lap 11: Tim Kunkel noses ahead of Alvaro Torres for 8th at the line. Kunkel should be able to clear Torres this time around.

Lap 12: Kunkel drives it off into turn 3 and takes over that 8th spot from Alvaro Torres. Torres now has Noah Joyce looking to his inside into turn 1 for 9th.

Just as soon as Mallon was starting to run away with the lead, Smetana has now cut the gap to 3 tenths of a second.

Lap 13: Joyce around Torres for 9th. Ben Althen now pulls alongside Torres for 10th. Behind them. Sean English is looking to get back around Ray Tustin for 12th

Lap 17: There is a Playoff driver log jam behind 5th place Steven Merzlak. Schramm has been on his back bumper for most of the opening laps of this race, and now John Rodriguez and Noah Joyce are beginning to close in. Schramm nearly put the bumper to Merzlak off into turn 3 last time by.

Lap 18: Schramm's inability to get around Merzlak for 5th will cost him 6th to John Rodriguez. Rodriguez gets to the inside of Schramm into turn 3, and it looks like he'll clear him off into turn 1.
