Random question about Prison

So I was just watching the local news and they said that some guy was going to the state prison for "for the rest of his life PLUS 41-101 years".

So does that mean that they bury or cremate him and keep his remains in the Jail graveyard for 41-101 years before turning them over to his family?

Wouldn't that just be a waste of money & resources?

Like I've seen old prisons with cemeteries from the 1800s early/mid 1900s but I never knew they still would do that kind of stuff.

I'm going to say no. It's just a way of saying he's in prison for the rest of his life. It might also play a factor in whether or not he can be paroled later on. Like if he has a life sentence plus some extra years tacked, he might not have the possibility of parole. Just a theory.

Yeah, I'm coming up with the same conclusions from what I could find looking it up. Tack on the extra years so there's no possibility of parole. Strange how it works, but I guess its the easiest terminology they could come up with.

I think that it means he'll be spending no less than fourty years there, as in +40-to-101 years.

Well, this guy got life plus 1,152 years for killing Denver Broncos QB Darrent Williams back in 2007.

"Life" in prison is until you turn 80 years old, then they let you out,
Thats why they giv u parole,
Unless you've got an extra 41-101 years, then your in there 'till you die.
So that is why they say "Life in prison plus 41-101 years."

I rekon I'd cap myself instead of prison - even if it was like 10 years!!

But then I was thinking... they have you in custody from crime-prison!!! When would you do it! ahhhhh!

Ahh ok that explains that part of it, since the dude was like 60 "life" would only be a 20 year sentence so the extra time is just to make sure it really is "Life in Prison"

I think it's just saying - if you could live forever - this would be your sentence - your crime was so bad it's a couple murder sentences.

I don't think it has any literal meaning so to speak.
