rfactor file system

can someone please explain how this file system works? I have both rf1 and rf2 and I decided to dust off rf1 with a newer stock car mod and I don't understand how this file system works. I took the files and added them to the folders they were supposed to go into, but when I select the mod it CTD. It does this with the VHR 14 mod. I don't know what I'm doing wrong.

rFactor can be finicky, one wrong line on one fine can cause you lots of grief
