UPDATE 2: SPEED Energy announced that it will sponsor Robby Gordon, one of the most diverse drivers in motorsports, for two of the remaining NASCAR Sprint Cup Series races this season. Built for SPEED, the #7 SPEED Energy Toyota will debut this weekend at Talladega Superspeedway, one of the fastest racetracks in the world and again in the season-ender at Homestead-Miami Speedway. SPEED Energy is available in three flavors: Unleaded, Fuel, and Octane, which provide the human machine with the fuel it needs to keep up with the SPEED of life. SPEED Energy will be available nationwide in major retailers, convenience stores, grocery stores, bars and nightclubs.(RGM)(10-29-2010)

So apparently Robby Gordon has the logo for his Energy drink of the side of his personal pickup that he drove to the race. Well Officials from PepsiCo had it towed from the infield because they considered his teams sponsor logos "Advertising" and the only Advertising of Energy drinks allowed at the track for this race weekend is from Amp.

Kevin Conway won't drive for RGM the rest of the season unless Robby plans on entering a 2nd car which is unlikely. Conway was suppose to drive at Homestead until this came about.

GAS ON ROBBY!

Gordon in the #7 through Phoenix: According to a post on his Facebook page, Kevin Conway said, "Just wanted to let everyone know that I will be in the car at Homestead. Robby Gordon will be in it through Phoenix." Cownway was originally listed as the driver of the #7 this weekend, but Gordon will drive.(10-29-2010)

This was the same day as the energy drink was announced. Conway will probably be in the car at Homestead.

Robby fighting Bike company over logo: #7-Robby Gordon launched his new Speed Energy drink last week in hopes of generating enough revenue for him to race next season. But his Speed Energy drink has hit a speed bump. Gordon hopes the rollout of the drink doesn't get stalled by the "S" logo on his car, driver uniform and on the drink bottle. Gordon has sued Specialized Bicycle Components, which had sent him a cease-and-desist letter over his logo. Specialized now seeks an injunction in U.S. District Court in California to keep Gordon from using the logo he has used periodically since June on his race car in advance of the product launch last week. Specialized alleges that Gordon's logo is too similar to its logo. If Specialized prevails at the injunction hearing Nov. 15 and Gordon must change his labeling and logos before being able to sell the product, he might not be able to compete in NASCAR next year, Gordon said in court documents. Gordon, who filed his lawsuit in September, claims that he's not in the bicycle business and therefore there cannot be confusion between the two logos. His Robby Gordon Motorsports organizations fields teams in NASCAR's Sprint Cup Series with an occasional start in the Nationwide Series. The energy drink is Gordon's vision of a new way of NASCAR sponsorship, and the lawsuit with Specialized was an unexpected snag. Specialized alleges that there could be confusion with people who think Gordon or his drink are affiliated with Specialized. The Specialized logo has been in use for 28 years. Gordon says his logo is different because it is shaped more like a lightning bolt. His is orange which he said is a carryover from his days driving for Cingluar while Specialized's primary logo is more red. Specialized isn't buying it, especially because it sponsors a cycling team in partnership with Monster energy drink a former sponsor of Gordon. "The parties' marketing channels substantially overlap," Specialized says in its filing. An e-mail requesting comment from Specialized was not answered. Gordon referred all questions to his attorney, Steven Nichols, who also is his partner in Speed Energy. Specialized, in a filing Monday, noted that Gordon could have changed the logo before the launch last week. All it is asking is for Gordon to change the logo.(in part from SceneDaily)(11-6-2010)

It seems like whatever Robby does he runs into some trouble.

That's because he's an idiot. No offense to Robby fans, but the guy seems to have no sense. Stupid publicity stunts, throwing out debris to create cautions, not paying for engines, shady/spotty sponsor deals, switching manufacturers at the drop of a hat, and now ripping off (maybe unintentionally, but still) other companies' logos. I went to the bicycle site, and the two logos are almost identical. Shoulda checked that before running it. Problem I have is, he's been using that logo for speedfactory.tv for a while, and no complaints. He got into trouble when he slapped it on an energy drink. The bike company has a sponsor partnership with Monster. I think in this case, he should just get a new logo created. The bike company has been around for 30 years, and the logos are remarkably similar. I don't think he can win this one.

Robby needs to sell his team and go to work for a bigger one. He was doing well in the Childress car until he screwed that up. And he needs to either race the Cup Series or Dakar. He's got the pressures of being a driver/manager/owner in two racing series that race on TWO DIFFERENT CONTINENTS. There's a reason that no one (besides Danica) races in NASCAR and another seperate series on a regular basis. Too time-consuming. Even racing a full-time Nationwide schedule has held back and limited drivers like Carl Edwards and Kyle Busch.

We should rename this thread the Robby Gordon Fail Thread. Robby gordon pulled over.......Robby Gordon asked to take logo off truck.......Robby Gordon in lawsuit with bike company over logo.....You get the point.

Robby Gordon doesn't fail. He just does his own thing and I guess people don't like it.

Wow! That title is odd. Why not rename it something about "Speed Energy Drink".

No offense to any Robby Gordon fans, but Robby Gordon has always been a crybaby. He's just a big jerk who thinks he can get away with driving a " Nascar " on a freeway, purposely wrecking Marcos Ambrose and thought he won the race even though Nascar penalized him, feuding with Michael Waltrip and other drivers purposely, throwing a helmet at Waltrips own car, copying logos, and complaining at any thing.

1. Publicity stunt
2. NASCAR's fault, since it was obvious that he was spun by Ambrose AFTER the caution was out, the retaliation was expected.
3. lol how so
4. Because Waltrip wrecked Gordon moments after the caution was out?
5. lol how so
6. Sometimes, his complaints are comedy gold (anyone who has been to A race and tuned into his radio after a random pitstop knows this).
