Sadler out at RCR? going to JGR in 2013?: Richard Childress, owner of RCR, tells Claire B Lang on the SiriusXM NASCAR Radio Pre-Race Show that Elliott Sadler has not re-signed with the company[for 2013], Sadler currently leads the Nationwide Series points.(SiriusXM NASCAR Radio). Rumors floating around have Sadler going to Joe Gibbs Racing to run full-time in the Nationwide Series and run a 4th JGR Sprint Cup Series car part-time in 2013.(9-2-2012)

If I'm not mistaken didn't Childress say he wants Joey Coulter full time in NNS next year? If so the 2 car could be a great spot for him, especially if OneMain stays aboard.

I like the move for Elliot, he would move to arguably the best NNS team out there not to mention the possibility of running more Cup races, in elite equipment. A veteran like Elliot could be great for JGR, as he is someone who could really help out their young and upcoming drivers like Darrell Wallace.

I actually hope this happens because it will give Coulter a shot to move up, and give Elliot a just as good, if not better shot at an NNS title and a shot to run more Cup races.

It would be the best equipment Sadler has ever run in. Arguably in NNS and Definitely in Cup.

Elliott Sadler has to know that if he's going to make it back into the Cup Series, it probably won't be with RCR. Kevin Harvick's not going anywhere. Paul Menard is a walking, talking full-time sponsor. Jeff Burton has no plans to retire. Team #4 is reserved for the upcoming grandsons and/or Joey Coulter/Tim George/RCR development driver. So where does that leave Sadler?

The answer is... elsewhere.

JGR is a possibility, but IMO Sadler should call OneMain and then immediately call Jack Roush. Roush would put Sadler in a OneMain Financial sponsored Roush Ford tomorrow if the opportunity presented itself.

Maybe he will call Roush up.

UPDATE: Appearing Monday night on SPEED's Race Hub, Elliott Sadler confirmed he would not be back with Richard Childress Racing in 2013. He said he had not been offered an opportunity to stay at Childress next season and that he does not yet have a deal with a team for next year.(9-4-2012)

I agree. JGR would be a great team to go to. It should be interesting. I just hope he wins the damn title this year.

I got to agree with Matt. Sadler would be a great replacement for Matt. He has been apart of RFR(Yates) before, and knows what they are doing. I don't want him in JGR, but if Gibbs is smart, he would grab Sadler. I think what he is doing in NWS is amazing, and hope no matter what happens, he has a ride for next year, NWS or Cup.

Ricky Stenhouse Jr is replacing Matt Kenseth..... But if Elliott somehow convinces a sponsor to move up to cup there could be a possibility of him in a 4th car for Roush.

Technically, he wasnt really a part of Roush Racing (neither was Fenway Group for that matter). Roush Racing and Yates Racing were completely separate teams. Jack and Robert did combine engine shops in 2004, but the two teams still had nothing to do with eachother (no technical alliance, or sharing of data, or anything like that).

Just figured I'd point that out.

I heard this on Sirius during the race the other night....quite interesting given the circumstances this silly season. With Logano gone, that opens up the 20 seat in the Nationwide Series. Kenseth has never really been the type of guy that runs the lower series on a regular basis, so I don't see him taking the seat. My best guess would be that Sadler leaves for the 20 and gets a full time Nationwide ride, and a partial Cup schedule on a 4th Gibbs team. (Much like they did with Logano in '08, I believe.)

Looks like this opens the door for Joey Coulter to move up to NNS, which is definitely a good thing for him. Say what you want about RCR's driver development, but I personally think that they are possibly the best in NASCAR at it. They developed Harvick, and they developed Bowyer, two drivers who are Championship contenders. RC is giving the Dillons and Coulter plenty of time to develop, instead of rushing them like Gibbs with Logano and Penske with Hornish. In reality, Sadler had to know this move was coming. He's an aging veteran, and while he's a championship contender, there are up and coming drivers nipping at his heels to get that seat, so I would think that he's been talking to other teams for a while now. I see him driving the #20 Gibbs Toyota next year, with a couple of races in a 4th Cup car.

Sadler may be an "aging veteran"? But he's an aging veteran who is getting it done! Maybe he's doing too good of a job and is showing up RC's grandson?
I hope Elliott does go to JGR, good for him and JGR.

Yes, I think he's an aging veteran. He's 37 years old and running in the Nationwide Series, not the Cup series. He had the same equipment as Kasey Kahne for 3 full seasons, and Kahne had points finishes of 19th, 14th, and 10th with a combined 4 wins, 12 top 5s, 36 top 10s, and 4 poles. In that same time frame ('07-'09), Sadler had points finishes of 25th, 24th, and 26th with a combined total of 0 wins, 3 top 5s, 15 top 10s, and 0 poles. The facts are right there. Sadler's never been able to get in done in Cup, and while you can make the argument that he didn't have good equipment during the years I took out, Kahne still had significantly better results in that same equipment. In addition, during the course of those 3 years, Kahne had 4 engine-related DNFs to Sadler's 1. So yes, Sadler is an aging veteran who was never meant to be a great cup driver. And I really don't think he's showing up Austin Dillon. Sure, Sadler's leading the points, but Dillon's just 37 points back in 4th as a ROOKIE, and actually has 1 more top 5 and the same amount of top 10s as Sadler.

He has run 14 or more races in all but 4 seasons since going to cup (and has won in all but two), and has earned 19 of his 26 Busch series wins since being a cup rookie. I could definitely see him buschwhacking the Nationwide series on a regular basis again, especially after being 1-for-1 this year.

So, what would be success for an "exCup driver"? Not winning races and leading the points?

What would have been a success would to have been back in cup after a year of nationwide, not becoming stuck as a Nationwide regular that cant even keep his ride in the 2 car, no matter the circumstances. Now were talking about a third Nationwide season with a new team. Sadler is looking as if his step down is permanent. I am not saying he doesn't fit in the Nationwide series but you dont race Cup for as long as he did with the intent of your success being a full time Nationwide driver.

I'd take winning Busch series or truck series championships over being middle-field in the cup series, anyday. Besides, that didn't stop drivers like Johnny Benson, Ted Musgrave, Jeff Green, Todd Bodine, Ron Hornaday or Bobby Hamilton from not only being successful, but staying in their lower series purposefully.

Before you correct me about it being the Nationwide series, I probably would have quit before the sponsor change if my point of view on the changes during the chase era were the same. lol

Sadler did get it done in Cup in the #38 car, that was his biggest mistake, leaving that team.
But, how many wins does dillon have in the "same equipment" Sadler is in?
I'll never get some of the logic of some people, and I guess that's what makes us all different.
Sadler gets crapped on in here, but AJ was a hero. I guess I just don't get the younger crowd's thinking.? Oh well.
