    2014 winners:

    (2)D. Mahoney
    (2) B. Nixon
    (1) A. Ahlbrand
    (1) D. Busch
    (1) M. Grube
    (1) K. Missimer
    (1) J. Gegner
    (1) T. Kunkel
    (1) K. Slaughter
    (1) M. Oppenheimer
    (1) J. Hooper Sr
    (1) B. Gorman

The last 15 races of this season culminate in this weekend's event at Homestead Miami. Points leader Billy Nixon saw a 30+ point lead vanish after Martinsville, as tire trouble relegated him to the back of the grid. Nixon's misfortune was JJ Jordan's gain, as the journeyman driver comes within 9 points of his first series title. All in all, 9 drivers have a shot at hoisting the championship trophy at race end. Who will win it?

Power Rankings - Race 16: Homestead

    Biggest points gain: 66 Ahlbrand (+6) (22nd → 16th), 21 Zumwalt (+6) (30th → 24th)
    Biggest points loss: 8 Hawkins (-9) (26th →35th)

    Rank (LW) (+/-)

    1. (1) 79 Nixon: The 79 Asher Racing team have been the class of the field for the latter half of the 2014 season. With only 1 DNF to his name all season long, Billy has had a knack for missing the big wrecks and having enough of an engine underneath him to make it the distance. A tire problem last week has eliminated the points cushion he had over second place, so he will need to rely on that Asher Racing Chevrolet engine to keep him up front for Sunday's event. As long as Nixon keeps his contenders in the rear-view mirror, he will walk away as your newest champion.

    2. (-9) 28 Jordan: What a way to return to full time racing. Series veteran JJ Jordan finds himself the closest to a championship that he's ever been...only 9 points away from making it 3 straight titles for Webster Racing. With the 85 and 95 out of the running this season, expect them to pool their resources into the Netflix Camry to keep him in contention all race long.

    3. (-23) 29 Gegner: Another racer in the series that has been with it since inception, Jimmy Gegner is within arms' reach of giving SRD, Inc its first series title. If not for two DNFs this season, the 29 crew may have found their jobs going into this race a bit easier. As it stands though...Gegner will need a big day and help from the two men ahead of him in order to come out of Miami on top.

.4 (-32) 67 Walz: With his teammate falling by the wayside at Martinsville, Aaron Walz finds himself as the lone hope for MWM to score its first series championship. His first career win at Talladega propelled him into the top 10, and a solid race last week has solidified him as a contender. Look for Ford to put all its eggs into the 67's basket on Sunday...the Corsair Fusion will be the lone Blue Oval in the hunt for the title.

    5. (-38) 89 Hooper, Sr: Another season, another chance for the Dominator to lay claim to his namesake. The past two seasons have seen Hooper run into problems in the final races, effectively knocking him out of contention. A poor start to this season (including 3 DNFs) put him behind the 8 ball to start his run at the title. 1 win and 5 top 5's later, he has one more shot - however long it may be - to get it done.

    6. (-38) 00 Leichtfuss: Leichtfuss is another driver that was bitten by the DNF bug this year. Having the most top 10s of any driver this year, Andre knows the meaning of consistency when all 4 wheels stay on the track. Expect another solid finish from the 00 team.

    7. (-38) 2 Casique: Angel Casique finally finds himself in a car that matches his talent this year. Having constructed a string of solid finishes this year, he finds himself in the title hunt for the first time in his young career. Dan Busch took Xtreme to the championship in 2011...expect him to give some pointers to his teammate.

    8. (-44) 14 Towns: Looks like team ownership has really turned the tables for Jerry Towns. After swimming around in the bottom of the barrel last year, the 14 team sits in the top 10, and 1 good finish away from history. If the car stays under him this weekend, look for Jerry to make some moves up front.

    9. (-46) 98 Mahoney: Last week's win served as the 98 team throwing their hat back into the ring once more. Devin will be looking for Lady Luck to loan him out a large sum this weekend for a chance at greatness. As far back as he is...expect some exceptionally bold moves from the man that likes to bump and run.

    ------------------------

MWM holds a 41 point lead over SRD, Inc for the owners' title. With a solid speedway program beneath both teams, expect to see them duke it out this weekend.

    ------------------------

Davis and Ahlbrand will go into this weekend tied for the RotY title...with Ahlbrand owning the tiebreaker thanks to his win a couple weeks ago.

@zweb95: Championship weekend here at Homestead-Miami! As a driver, I'm looking forward to getting out there and just having some fun. This track has been a great place for us. As an owner, history. How about a #3peat if @JJJordan can pull off this championship?! #SRDCup #3for3

DB#9 "It has been an up and down year for all of us at Xtreme Motorsports and even though it is a long shot it is great the Angel is again part of the championship mix. When we look back at it we may have gotten greedy at Talladega trying to find a little something extra out of the engines it really hurt our championship run for the #2 and #9 teams. But it has been a good season as myself and Kyle Slaughter were able to find victory lane and the best way to cap off this season would be for Angel to end it in victory lane as well."

@DMahoney98: Big win for the Golden Corral and Opp, Inc. guys last week. Longshot to win the title but we're gonna give it our all. Might as well pick up our 3rd win while we're at it. #3ForDale #SRDcup #GoFastTurnLeft #Toyota #GoldenCorral #MmmFood #WinnerWinnerChickenDinner #IHadChickenAtGoldenCorralAfterIWonLastWeek #TooManyHashtags #OkayImDone #OrAmI #OkSeriouslyImDoneNow

Well, Homestead is a track I should do well at, but we've had some bad luck here along the way. I'm hoping for a good top-5 finish and finish this season strong in the 89 Pfizer Camry. *drinks a Coke*

@WJGRacing: History lesson! WJG Racing drivers @zweb95 and @grube85 won their championships entering the race 2nd in points. @JJJordan comes into this race 2nd in points. The #3peat is on it looks like.

I'll be running this race in memory of good friend and fellow QU grad Patrick Meehan, who passed away last night in a motorcycle crash. It's devastating news, but I'll remember the good times and try and move forward. He would have wanted it that way.

If possible Chev, if someone made a decal saying RIP Patrick Meehan, would I be able to add that? Might be complicated and last minute.

@VictoryLaneEnterprises-It's been a trying year for #VLE in our debut #SRDCup season. P32, P33 and P34 in points, last in team points. We've definitely got some work to do over the offseason, but we've worked hard all season and hopefully we can have our best race yet this weekend.
