Last Race: Tyler Mallon goes back to back at Outward after a late race pass on the 28 car of Jordan who had dominated the 2nd half of the race. Mallon, just the 2nd driver this season with multiple wins, jumps up the seeding order to #1 after collecting 5 more playoff points with that win.
This Race: One last shot to make the playoffs for those on the outside looking in. The events from last weekends race Outward have tightened up the cutoff race points wise but a new winner this weekend at Richmond could really shake up who makes it and who doesn't.
    Race Info: 180 laps/135 miles
    2017 Pole Sitter: A. Spencer (21.797)
2017 Race Winner: T. Kunkel (138 laps led)
    Previous Winners: S. Lennox (2016), B. Nixon (2015), D. Mahoney [Ret.] (2014), M. Grube [Ret.] (2013), J. Gamboa [Ret.] (2012)

Shane Lennox leads the way in practice over Nixon and DeCosta.

Slates needs to win to make the playoffs and he takes a step towards that by grabbing the pole for tomorrow's race. Missimer, currently on the outside looking in by just 16 points, will start alongside.

RB- We've already dug ourselves in a hole. We need to improve on our qualifying because this is just ridiculous. Hard to believe we're in this position in the first place. But we're not going down without a fight.

The command has been given and all 38 cars begin making their way on track. 180 laps before we lock in 15 drivers for the playoff run to Homestead.

Our defending series champion Wes Slates is starting from the pole and needs to win tonight to make it into the playoffs. Kyle Missimer, also a past champion, is on the outside of the front row and comes in just 16 points out of the final playoff spot. He'll be looking for a win or a very strong race tonight to get himself in the chase for the title.

Parade laps have begun, the green flag about 5 minutes away.

Cars are doubled up and the pace car pulls in, the green flag waves and we are underway at Richmond!

Lap 1: Slates noses ahead into turn 1 as the field spreads out across all 3 lanes through turns 1 and 2. Missimer with some momentum off that 2nd line pulls even for the lead into turn 3. The 68 tight on the door of the 24 through turns 3 and 4. Slates not able to get off of 4 good and Missimer will lead at the line. Blanford clear in 3rd as Johnston and Coleman race side by side for 4th and 5th.

I'll be keeping a running update of where the playoff cutline is throughout the race so those drivers can see how they are stacking up vs each other.

Lap 2: Missimer pulls out ahead of Slates and Blanford then it's a few car lengths back to Coleman who makes easy work of Johnston for 4th. Johnston in that upper lane not having the same success as the 68 did. He falls down 2 more spots after Lennox and Hancock both go by on the bottom.

Lap 5: Lennox with a move on Coleman into turn 1. He dives to the inside of the 12 car and gets even but Coleman able to keep up momentum in the outside lane and he clears the 18 off of 2. Hancock right behind those 2 looking for an opening.

    Kyle Missimer
    - Leading
    Greg Woodard - 16th (+55)
    Shane Lennox - 5th (+54)
    Will Anderson - 18th (+45)

Lap 7: CAUTION. One car around on the backstretch and hard into the inside wall. Looks to be Dan Busch in the #9. Heavy front end damage for the inaugural Cup Champion and looks like his race will come to an early end. Missimer the leader.

Replays show Busch got a bit of help off turn 2. Cody Llamas in the 48 put the bumper to the #9 and turned Busch into the inside wall. No other cars involved as we go under yellow for the first time tonight.

Green flag waves once again and we are back underway!

Lap 13: Slates with a good restart jumps to the inside of Missimer into turn 1. Once again though the 68 able to hold down on the door of the 24 and keep the momentum up off of 2 and maintain the lead.

Lap 15: Blanford moves up to the middle of the track looking to get around Slates for p2 but that opens the door for Lennox in the 18. Lennox rolling the bottom really well and he'll move up into 3rd as they race off of 4.

Lap 17: Blanford not giving up on the upper lane and he gets back to the right rear of Lennox for 3rd. He's got the 22 wound up on the outside and powers by to retake that 3rd position. A few car lengths behind them Alan Harkleroad also utilizing that outside line has raced his way up into the 6th position after the restart with Jordan and Hancock battling just behind the 54 for 7th and 8th.

Lap 19: Trouble for Slates! He slows in the upper lane as the field goes by. The defending champion needed to win tonight to have a shot to defend his title but now he coasts down pit road and the crew will go to work on the 24. Looks like their chances at a repeat are over as they will go several laps down trying to resolve the issues.

Lap 25: Missimer out in front by 1 second over Blanford who has the 18 of Lennox all over his rear bumper. Harkleroad has made his way by Coleman and pulled away by over a half second in that 4th spot. Things are single file from there back to about 12th where we see a 3 way fight between Johnston, O'Reilly and DeCosta. The 47 of Johnston all the way up in that 3rd lane and falling back with a seemingly ill handling car. O'Reilly moving forward in that 16 car, up 10 positions since the start of the race.

Lap 26: Battle for 5th heating up now into turn 1. Coleman has moved up the track looking for grip and Hancock will drive by on the bottom. Jordan in the 28 was making that 2nd lane work and now closes right in on the rear of the 12 into 3. Coleman has the air taken off the back and he checks up, Jordan puts the bumper to him and Coleman sideways off of 4! He saves it but pounds the outside wall and stacks up several cars behind him. No caution as everyone sorts themselves out but that was a close one.

Lap 31: Coleman a rolling road block out there now as he has caught the wall twice more off of 4 and been shoved out of the way by Smetana. He finally regroups but has fallen down to 28th. That dust up cost the 16 of O'Reilly a bunch of positions as well. O'Reilly had charged into 10th from 21st before that incident but now finds himself back down in 25th after checking up to avoid the 12.

Up front it's all Missimer, now up by 1.9 seconds over the new 2nd place runner of Lennox, who worked his way under the 22 of Blanford and is pulling away. Harkleroad now working over the rear of the 22.

Lap 33: Harkleroad makes quick work of Blanford who is still trying to work in that 2nd lane but continues to lose time to the top 3 and now sees the 45 of Hancock closing in for that 4th spot. Behind them Curtain has raced his way up into 6th and Ryan DeCosta now up to 10th from 18th.

Lap 45: Things have calmed down inside the top 10 as the field is spread out all the way around the track. Missimer has started to fade and Lennox and Harkleroad have reeled in the 68. Just 3 tenths between the top 2 as we are halfway through the stage.

Lap 47: Harkleroad moves the 54 car up to the top lane and has a huge run on Lennox off of 2. Lennox leaves the top open and Harkleroad will rocket by and into 2nd down the backstretch. He again runs high in 3 and 4 but doesn't get as good of a run and now Lennox takes a peak back to the inside for 2nd. Lennox back to 2nd into turn 1.

42CC: Brendon pretty much needs to win the damn thing to make it into the Chase right now, he's last in the cut-off.
42: Nahhh he's fine. You guys say he's running 5th, he'll make it, I don't have any doubts.
42CC: Alright buddy, keep doing you right now, still stuck mid-pack go get 'em.
