Hey all,
Was wondering if the smiffden day to night tracks can have the transition sped up from day to night for shorter races. I had an older Kentucky track that had a 2x and 4x speed up .ptf file, but that didn't work for the newest Kentucky or Homestead tracks. Any answers appreciated!

If your putting the older files in the newer track, that won't work. To do that with the newer track you would have to use Sandbox and open the track than change the animation part of the sky.3do I believe.

You need to change all the animations, increase them by 2, 4 or 6x as desired.

I can't get the .ptf file to open in Sandbox. It keeps saying that the flagger_sf_r.3do won't open. Anything I can do to remedy the situation? If I can't get the ptf file to open, I can't change the animations!

you may need the mips for the flagger, they should be hiding in the shared folders dat.

Take the unpack folder you're using and place it in the Nascar 2003/tracks directory and work from there. If the unpack is still in Kentucky SDT, it can't access the shared folder.

First, I want to thank everyone for their help and suggestions. I have tried them all, and still cannot open the ptf file. Now it says there is no specific reason why it won't open, something about try to run in debug mode and look at the log. I don't know how to run in debug mode, and I can't find a log file.
Any other words of wisdom? I would really like to open this ptf file and change the animation rate.

I'd say unpack the dat again, then put the unpack folder and shared folder into the same directory.
So you'd have something along the lines of C:/Papyrus/Nascar2003/Track editing/shared
and C:/Papyrus/Nascar2003/track editing/kentucky SDT unpack

I've found if you isolate your material away from the other parts of the game Sandbox will have less of a fit doing things.

You need to unpack the shared.dat file into the shared folder as well, sandbox can't load textures from a DAT file.

Don't put the contents of the shared folder into track folder, you'll never get out from under that particular rock if you do lol!

Okay!
I got the track to open in Sandbox! But, I'm completely ignorant on how to change the animation speed of the different 3do's. I'm learning as I'm going. Please more information!(y)

Select a 3do, if its animated, in the left side box the animation parameters will activate, to double the speed of the animtion, simply double the fps. i.e. 0.01 change to 0.02 will double the speed, aka half the transition time.

Settle on one figure, i.e. 2x speed, or 3x speed, don't mix and match, it won't work, if you want to half the transition time from day to night, double the fps speed.

You don't need to change the number of frames.

Do this for every animation, there's a lot to do, grab a calculator if it helps.

Hey Ian,

any idea why the 3d crowd on the grandstand keeps fading out in a far distance?
For example, when i'm in T3-T4 heading to the S-F line, the grandstands only shows half of the crowd

here's a picture of what happens

Just to give an update and thanks:
I got the track to load in Sandbox, figured out what Ian was talking about the 3d0's, changed the value of the animation, and WHOOPEE! got the track to work! Only thing is; I changed it 4x and for a 50 lap race, I think I need to go to 6x or 8x. But, at least I know how to now. It is a process for sure, but an old dog like me (54) can still learn new things!
Thanks again to all,
Leroy(y)

That's the model LODs at work there, game has to have them otherwise it'll fall over.

Pull in the focal zoom so its not so wide, that should fix it.
