So, I've been working on a track for NR 2003, and I need some help with the following 2 things if anyone knows anything about them....

1. Is it possible to take a existing .3do (I.E. a billboard from in Atlanta or something) make copys of the object under different names, but have different .mips map to each copy? Because I want to use the 3d0 "b_winston.3do" multiple times on the track , but have different .mips for it for each copy....

2. How can I get rid of invisible walls over existing walls? I want to be able to have cars leave the racing area if a crash is large enough to send them over a wall, like the track "Talladega 70_80" has it's walls, I played around with the w settings a bit, but I could not find a solution to this....

If anyone could help me with these, thanks........

1. yes but as far as i've found, you will need editing tools for 3dos

2. as far as i've found, the farthest inside and outside wall seem to have infinite height, so i just add an extra invisible one farther out.

If you want to take an existing 3do and have it duplicated (as in have the same 3do and a duplicated one that uses a different mip on the same track) you'll need a 3do editing program to do so. Renaming a 3do is fine, but then you need to associate a different mip file to that 3do.

3DSimEd is especially useful for 3do compiling and such.

Seems like it worked on all but one wall, though I think its because of it's location in relation to the center line, gonna play around with it a bit....

Worked like a charm, Thanks!

I can't remember which hexeditor I used right now but you can make a copy of a 3do and then use the hexeditor to search for "mip" in the copy. Once you find the texture you want to change you change 1 character in the name (ie if the original texture is called billboard.mip you change it to for instance billboar1.mip).
For some reason the number of characters in the name has to stay the same.

WoW...that brings back memories! Hex-edit was all we had at one point :D

XVI32 is a free hex editor I use sometimes.
