Most-likely to reduce the weight of the spoilers a little.

When I used to work for an irrigation engineering company, we would drill holes in some parts we fabricated to reduce weight, so I'd venture a guess thats why they do it with the spoilers. I could be wrong though.

Thats the only thing I can think of as well. That part is down and out of the wind anyway...

However, if reducing weight was the case, and since the brackets are out of the airstream, why not reduce it even more?

^ They wouldn't do that because that piece is a brace for the spoiler. The actual spoiler is pushing on the brace. So if the brace is too light, it will bend and become basically useless. So I figure they drilled the holes to reduce the brace's weight to as light as it could possibly be while still being an effective piece.

Yea I have the 2010 rule book and its quite the read. Probably not like alot of people would think. Its so technical with wording and language that alot of it is hard to understand exactly what is being outlined. Not sure it says anything specifically about the holes in the spoiler though. I could take a look but I doubt its in there. It might be worth contacting Richardson Racing Products and asking them if its something you really want to know.

Hmmm, that's very tempting. Sure would be nice to have.

Um, that would be a bootlegged rule book that someone could possibly get in trouble for having. Nascar does NOT release the rule book to anyone outside of Nascar, including the media.

Under those circumstances, someone smuggling a book away from Nascar, then putting it up on Ebay of course is likely to happen, but I doubt it's something we want to encourage here by having a link to it in forums that anyone can read.

That makes sense.

I dont see the issue or how you could get in trouble for having it. I have all my ARMY handbooks still and know where you can buy them freely and legitly. Not like rule books have never been sold or acquired by anyone outside the sport before. It causes no harm and only helps use to understand the rules better. Ebay is no different then a yard sell on an item like this. I dont see someone going threw all the trouble of "smuggling" a book out to try and make a huge profit of a simple rule book. I am not promoting the sale or anything just shared something interesting, I thought.

The joke of NASCAR's rulebook is that they always write it in pencil so that they can erase it.

Or on a dry-erase whiteboard with a dry-erase marker.
