With all the recent struggles and last week's three-ring circus that lasted through the week, a week's worth of good scores was sorely needed. Fortunately, the high scores returned at Chicagoland, providing a springboard into the Chase. High scores returned in a big, big way.
This week's field of 54 combined for a strong 184.55 point average, with 35 of 54 scoring 180 or better. The entire top 15 all cleared the 200 point barrier. That's a remarkable result given how nobody but nobody broke 200 since Michigan. Something else that hasn't happened in a while is a tie for the win, but that also happened this week. Chaser ShadowKnight508 kicks off the Chase in a big way with a 219, riding correct Truck and Nationwide Winner picks to get there. Outside the Chase, taz1458 decided to move up from 26th in points with a 219 of his own. However, taz1458 managed a 219 with only 3 extra points from a correct Nationwide Winner pick, making taz1458's Cup Series per-pick average greater than ShadowKnight508's, and giving this week's checkered flag to taz1458. FloridaFan88 finished 3rd with a solid 215, with rookie canadienhits in 4th and Chase leader antknee10, who returns to the series after taking a week off, comes home 5th.

ShadowKnight508 takes his near miss win up into 3rd place only 44 points out of first. Fishtail falls to 4th from last week's tie for 3rd, with racingkid39 maintaining 5th. hijinxtattoo moves up to 6th after beginning the Chase in 10th, followed by johnp who falls to 7th. ChandlerTyson is 8th after race 1 of the Chase, followed by rockmoon26 in 9th, and Sgt. Slaughter and zaw24fan tied for 10th. db512 rides the Chase caboose into race 2 in New Hampshire.
In the race for 13th, since nobody was awarded a Chase berth ex post facto in this game, Tim2488 maintains 13th increasing his lead by a single point to 16 over 14th, but its a new 14th now with FloridaFan88 riding his top 5 up from 17th. MattSRD28, whoever that is, slips to 15th, with XxTeam48LowesXx up to 16th from 19th. jaqua99 falls to 17th after taking the week off, with Jagnole3 in 18th, race winner taz1458 clear up to 19th, and nascarfan9 cracks the top 20.

Darn...so close to my first win, yet that Edwards pick will haunt me for the next few days (was going to go with Gordon, but decided in the end when i posted my picks that Cousin Carl would be my final choice for that pick). Oh well, congrats to Taz1458 on picking up the narrow victory. A 219 to open the Chase is pretty awesome indeed.

I pretty well knew my chase hopes were over about race 18, just wanted to continue my consecutive seasons with a win. Jimmy V does own my favorite quote and that's it.
