Time's up! All that's left to wonder is how it shook out. No more chances. No more wishing and hoping. It's do or die. So how did it work out?

Well after the missed opportunity that was Atlanta, many of those in competition for a Chase berth made big swings and tried their best. Nearly everybody involved in the Race to the Chase gained over their Score to Beat. But was it enough? Was it not enough? That is the real question.

Scores overall were pretty good at Richmond. A strong field of 60 saw 55/60 score above 150. 29/60, just under half, all scored 190 or better. 18/50 scored 200 or higher, making for a high-scoring race. This week's winner is the 25th in 26 races in 2014, and a 2014 rookie. Let's congratulate Ryan597 for taking the Richmond win with an impressive score of 218 points. nascarman14 just missed the win by 1 point, but I have a feeling there won't be many tears shed over a 217 point score. Fishtail joins them on the podium with a 3rd place finish. Atlanta winner BillyJack79 came within 6 points of back to back wins, but ends up in 4th. degatime88 takes home a top 5 finish in 5th place.

Congrats to Ryan597 on the win! (y)

Before we go into all the Chase stuff, here are the complete results from Richmond:

Now the part you've all been waiting for, and spent the last 26 weeks racing for. Since February, making the Chase has been the goal. This year, more than any other, saw the most open window for Chase hopefuls. Yes, we did see at least one who was out going in to Richmond race their way in. We also have one who was in the Chase going in to Richmond going home disappointed.

Remember, since we have now 25 winners in 26 races, making the Chase required a win and then we'll talk. Ryan597 tastes the sweet taste of victory, but unfortunately was not high enough in the standings to clear enough other winners to make the Chase. Even with the win and the 218 point score, Ryan597 sadly fell 33 points short of making the last Chase Grid position. But Ryan597 should not feel down since that's about a good a shot as anyone can take in the last race. Ryan597 can still be considered a race winner, and that counts for a lot on its own.

Also bitterly disappointed leaving Richmond is bigrolltide1877 whose Richmond score was not high enough to clear his Score to Beat. Since so many others gained, and bigrolltide1877 was only 13 points to the good in the Race to the Chase, it was not enough to keep that coveted Chase position. bigrolltide1877 leaves Richmond 41 points out of the last Chase Grid position.

That takes care of the bad news. Let's have the good news. Richmond's 2nd place finisher nascarman14 went into Richmond with a win, but still 19 points out of the Chase. Thanks to a 217 point score, nascarman14 has successfully raced his way into the Chase in a tie for 15th with 24JGM who successfully hung onto that last Chase Grid position. Way to go!

Here are the full results of this year's Race to the Chase:

Here are the standings and the Chase Grid as they stood after Richmond, but before the Chase reset:

Let's give a big congrats to the 2014 SRD Pick'em Chase combatants:
  • USSTalladega
  • NAlt4
  • blueman
  • XxTeam48LowesXx
  • roostmotor87

  • the Ghost888
  • 2448fan4life
  • Fishtail
  • BillyJack79
  • Boomer
  • DanAsher26
  • nascarman14
  • 24JGM

(y)(y)(y)(y)

As you can see, the top of the standings did go through a little shuffle after Richmond. NAlt4 can claim being the standings later at Chase cutoff, but since NAlt4 had a win already, it does not factor into the Chase. It does affect the Chase Grid positioning, but even that, as you're about to see is not a guarantee of their position in the standings heading into Chicagoland and the Chase.

While it closely parallels the Sprint Cup Chase format, the SRD Pick'em Chase is run a little differently and is constructed a little differently. Here the positions of the Chase contenders is not determined by wins alone. Wins merely factored into the formula, but Chasers also had their season-long weekly avg and whatever bonus points were earned over the season also added into their initial Chase reset formula. Since some had better averages and more bonus points than others, the standings look a little different than the Chase Grid.

Here are the standings after the Chase reset, ready for the opening race of the Challenger Round of the Chase:

For more details on how the Chase reset calculations were done, see the Pick'em Rules, History, Info thread. For now, a big congrats to all Chasers and best of luck in these next 10 races!

From 5th to 18th in the standings. That is certainly not an indication of how well this season has gone for me. Really disappointed. Oh well, I guess.

Somehow I finished 55th, even though Kenseth was my only driver outside the top 20...okay.
