So I am always tired of going around the interwebs looking for materials for my scenes. Especially those I use ALL the time. The textures would be grass, concrete, asphalt, the little lines between the block of concrete, the fringe from the grass that transitions to concrete, concrete that the curb is made out of, etc. So I literally took my digital camera, went outside and took some photos. I photoshopped them so the loop really nicely and not only that, but blended seamlessly from one texture (grass) into the other (concrete, asphalt etc). As you can see here I've just started (no bump or specular), but you can see the nice blending between 3 textures. The grass, the fringe onto the concrete, and then the concrete itself. When I'm done, I'll upload a texture pack that includes the diffuse, normal, specular, and color images.

Here's a second preview. All the textures have been made and can be seamlessly looped and blended between other textures. I left out the gap between concrete segments because I believe we'll all UV Map these differently and those gaps would be 30 feet apart or 30 inches apart. Both of which you don't want. So I didn't include them in the textures. If you want them, model them in and add some AO. Same thing. Anyway, here is a second preview. There are 5 textures going on. The curb concrete, asphalt, driveway concrete, driveway concrete blending into the grass, and the grass.

hmm, it gave me an idea! A setback of the garage, a typical American household, I think you know what I mean .. I think it would be nice, and funny x)

Are these solely for rendering? Or are there plans for in-game?

Here's a better render. I'll be doing the spec, bump, and diffuse maps today.

Look up a program called CrazyBump. It'll have your bump and spec maps done in minutes.

Thanks Douglas. That's the program I use. I used to make my own maps, like desaturated them, then boost the levels and contrast and use that as a bump/specular. But this program gives SO much better quality. And since I have a mac, I get the free beta program. ;)

Okay, the textures are done. All the maps and so forth. Here is a distance shot and a close up shot. I'm using 5 textures and as you can see, the all blend from one texture to another. Also the textures are quite seamless in and of themselves. I hope you enjoy after about 8 hours of work on these. Textures are PNG and are 2500x2500.

Nice John... seamless maybe but the tiling is visible...rotation of the mapping eliminates some of that but there's really no getting away from it. Good job...

I would rather see tiling the seams. ;) But yeah, I've done all I can for repeating patterns and so forth, but it's simply impossible.
