the joker tries to take over gotham city and batman tries to stop him. batman is set out to stop crime in gotham city FOR GOOD

I believe the point of it was to make millions for everyone involved.

The Joker wanted Batman to pursue hime and play his games. Batman was struggling with his inner self to figure out what he wanted to do, save peoples lives and they hate him. Or do nothing and wonder why humanity cries out "we need a hero." The double-edged sword to anyone doing a good deed. I.E the military, police, etc.
