You know I'm sure someone out there can create a program that does what Sandbox can do but in a much more easier way and a user-friendly interface so that pretty much anyone can make tracks. It would be cool to have something like that, or even something like the track maker for rFactor (I forgot what it's called, but I used one and made half a track in like 5 mins.) would be awesome. It's always fun to think about. But hot damn J keep up the good work

Oh yeah. Just think about it? I mean, I understand how to use Sandbox. The process to make a simple one mile oval is simple. But when you actually try, the problems you encounter are just overwhelming. Bob's Track Builder: NR2003 Edition would just be amazing.

Oh yeah...then I'd make all the tracks I want. Las Vegas Street Course, Denver Street Course, Homestead 1997, OK, I gotta stop. I'm getting ahead of myself.

Yeah that's the one I used. Or heck even an easy way to convert rFactor tracks to NR2003 would be nice. I heard it was very difficult, and an easier way would be to just make the track for NR2003 in the first place.

That's what I've heard too.

Yet somehow, converting NR2003 to rFactor isn't very hard, so I hear.

Homestead 1997

what if i told you i made this last month, but never did anything with it other than making the basic oval. it probably won't go beyond what i have because it seems there are literally no pics of it and i only see maybe 2 videos of this track, one being a fatal crash. thats not fun to watch. I even tried google earth's old satellite images, and it skips from 1999s complete oval to 1994 where the track ISNT THERE AT ALL!! :elvis: Actually i recommend doing that in google earth with anything, it's eerie and cool to see that the exact spot youre sitting at was basically a landfill 15 years ago. or what once existed.

Are you serious? Thats awesome. I would get in so much trouble if I did that. Plus, it takes long. We have Dell Latitude Laptops - Slowest things ever. But the Dell desktops are good.
How do you do that?
Well we have kinda fast desktops, i think dell. and actually having 2k3 on my flash drive isnt as great as you think, I have an 8 gig and in total my 2k3 folder takes up half of that. Plus when i copied it over it took 2 hours rofl.

And about the making an easy track maker, this is coming from a person who knows sandbox, so yeah, but i actually think that isn't the hardest part of track making. Yeah the program is buggy as hell, but i think the definite more frustrating thing is the INI and AI programming. i can make a fairly basic track and fire it up in the game in maybe 3 hours, but its the other stuff that takes a really long time and drives me insane. Like on this track right here, no matter what i do THE AI DO NOT WANT TO DO INTO THE DOGLEG SIDE BY SIDEEEEEEEEEE. :arghh: My lp files are good, the INI should easily give them enough reason to not be afraid but they still wont do it. it's a total buzzkill because they like to come off of turn 2 3wide sometimes. But then they all act like there's a cop with a radar gun in the dogleg, and they stand on the brakes and get in a nice single file line. Maybe they watched today's race and saw how many wrecks started there? :GEEK:

LOL just after i get done yelling at the AI, i figure out the problem. My maxrace.lp takes a really weird right turn where the dogleg begins. So this means that the allowable lane for the ai was like less than a car width. oopsie.

I don't know if you've ever played them but in some of the older Dirt Bike games (don't think they have the feature in the newer ones) they had a Create-a-Track feature where you pick the pieces you want and lay them out to make the track. (kinda like the skatepark builder in Tony Hawk games) Something like that but with more features (changing elevations, banking, etc) would be great, it would have a certain preset amount of textures & 3DOs for you to pick from but also the ability to import them easily so you can add your own.

Back in 2008 there was something like that in development for rFactor it was called "Raceparks" but it never got out of the WIP stage.

o yea here's some racing

I like this 4 wide nonsense, i only run like 10 cars a race right now but just about all of them stay pretty close together throughout a 16 lapper. PACE CAR ISSUES OMG. I wish i could wreck the pace car right now.

Save the original (and the 3do placement) if you go to correct the width. I think it would make for a decent fictional track ;)

Very very good. The only thing is that the track looks a little too wide. And the banking may be a little too steep, but thats just my interpretation. I could never do this, so whatever you do is unbelievable and extraordinary in my mind.

Continue the great work.

ok, lets address this width issue. The new proposed track for fall 2011 has a wider frontstretch by 10 feet. Now i dont know how that affects the rest of the width, so I made this track as wide as it is now. Take a look at that pic i just posted, those cars are 4 wide with about a car width in between. SO maybe.. 7 lanes wide. take a look at the next pic.

2 cars at the bottom with about a car width between them. picture 2 more cars next to them going 4 wide, and I hope you see that its about what i have on my track. And you are looking at the entrance to turn 1, where for the most part it's still the frontstretch width, which is 62 feet. The track DOES really really narrow coming off of turn 2 just like the current one does. Plus, and i think this is the most important part, I have no idea what this track is gonna look like in November so i'm just kinda making this track for fun and using my imagination. so yeah... lol. O and now i see your banking post aww96, yeah I agree this banking looks wayyyy too much, but I made it 11 degrees just like the specs call for. :elvis:

Thanks for the Pic, TheJ. Now i see you track isn't way too wide at all. And definitely the banking in yours is too much. As you mentioned, make sure that the track does narrow coming out of turn 2. Once again, awesome job. I could never do this.

If the version created by you is better, then by all means use it! Teach the track planners something. Try out the banked one and maybe save it for a possible fictional.

Thanks, and now, Widthgate continues!!!! :elvis:

Read please, because i totally didn't read this earlier

- Turns 1 and 2, now banked at 11 degrees, will have variable banking starting at 10 degrees on the bottom up to 11 degrees at the outside wall. Maximum width will be 80 feet, and the turning radius will be opened up from 370 to 400 feet.
- Turns 3 and 4, currently banked nine degrees, will be 50 feet wide. Turn 3 will be banked 8 degrees and Turn 4 variable at 8-9.
Most noticeable, though, will be the dogleg. In recent years, drivers have been able to shortcut the corner, usually running single-file. That section of the track will be pushed out 95 feet from the existing asphalt and be 55 feet wide. The new configuration will have 10- to 11-degree banking at the apex.

So............ believe it or not, my track is actually TOO NARROW. LOL. My turn 1 isnt even close to 80 feet. This just gets better and better doesn't it. :spinny:

O and the banking.. well i have 11 degrees. so it's actually right. i even doubled check in height view. NOW.. to fix the frontstretch because my frontstretch isn't 3 degrees at all.

No leave it then we can have 3 dimensional pileups on the frontstretch!

That's actually pretty cool. Reminds me of the Mr. Norms tracks where they messed with daytona and talladega (hill climb, squeeze). Keep it and save under another track name! Phoenix Dip! Keep working on the real edition too :)
