The news really aggravates me. This 15 y/o girl kills a 9 year old girl, and what's the first thing this lady on the news says? "Well maybe this is a girl who listens to bad music, or watches to many horror movies." Ok, 1st off, A LOT of people like horror movies. Does this make them wanna go around killing people? No. The girl was obviously ill in the head and no one decided to take notice. Now we have news broadcasters saying it's because of the music she listens to, and the movies she watched that made her do her actions. Her actions are her actions, and the music industry, nor the movie industry should even be brought up in a situation of this sorts. It's the same sort of situation as the Columbine incident. Who was blamed? Marilyn Manson. He had NOTHING to do with those kids actions, just like this situation. It's really annoying how the news and other media need to blame things like murder and rape on what kind of music a person listens to or what kind of movies they like just so that they can put the blame on someone, and hopefully get more ratings. It's just sick.

Does anyone else feel this way?

I am saying they were already messed up in the head and I bet Doom just urged them on.

I hear you brother, you know why I think games and media get a bad rap ? Because it's easier for someone to point the blame elsewhere instead of admitting that they didn't know their child as well as they thought or are in denial that a loved one had a problem.

It's sad to say that nowadays people are so quick to point the blame instead of "ponying up" and accepting responsibly and reality.

That pretty much sums it up!

They also said the Columbine students played Doom ALOT.

Ya, that's what I was thinking. I used to play doom when I was like 7-10. When it first came out. Everyday, for almost 2-3 hours. I loved it. Did that make me want to go kill some kids? No. I also listen to this band called Anal Cunt, if anyone's ever heard of them. They're good. 30 sec songs that are made to be as offensive as possible. Look up songs titles if you wanna get an idea of what I'm talking about. But to my point... I like them, and they have no affect on me. I listen to them for the lulz. And I really doubt heavy metal, or "brutal" music can really drive someone with nothing wrong inside there head to go and kill people. They have to have some sort of condition.

I just find it really disappointing that the media needs someone to blame that bad, and uses the easiest targets, such as a genera of music or movies.

I know man. I listen to wide a range of music but most of it is like deathcore, metalcore....whatevercore (Ifkinhategenres) :D

Point is that I love to listen to music. I do it all the time for my enjoyment. Never have I once listened to WhiteChapel and decided to go out and torture someone to death by ripping them limb by limb. Whatever. I hate the media haha

i totally agree on this. my mom gives me hell ALL the time cuz i listen to rap and rock. which she thinks influences me to do drugs and other bad things. i have never once done drugs or anything like that been offered it but i said no. so the media has not right to point fingers anywhere.

The more the media--any form of it--exists, the easier parents can use it as a scapegoat.

The concept of parenting must have been really foreign...

However, you yourself admit that it has brought the influence of drugs/bad things to you. While you've said no, not everyone is going to say no when in that position. What matters is that the position for you to say no or yes was created, and that scares parents. Bringing in the bad influences is like inviting a killer shark right up next to your inner tube and hoping you're smart enough to fight the shark off. Some may succeed, but many kids fail, and that's why your mom is fearful & looking out for you.

I believe that we'd be better off without bringing bad influences directly to kids & putting them in the position to likely fail if we can help it. Your mom is just trying to look out for your well-being while coming from the perspective of a mother. Of course you feel like you're strong enough, and you may well be plenty strong enough to fight off bad influences, but your mom will always have the instinct that it's up to her to save you should your efforts fail.
