what in the world do i have to do to get the AI to follow the min and maxpanic LPs?? they make no effort to avoid a wreck, i tried to change the collision detection, decel modifier, etc. but they will still follow the race.lp even if a whale was sitting in the middle of it. :elvis:

also, how speed dependant are max and min race? can i run these at, say, 70% how fast i would run them in a race? i am a terrible driver and cant keep a steady line where i want the AI to be off the corners. :err:

Do you have them the right way (maxrace on your left and minrace on your right)? How far away from race.lp are they? You could also try making some very small changes to the line_modifier (the dangerous hack... :D )

I've read both that speed matters for all lp's and that it's only important for race.lp so I'm not sure. When I record lp's race is the only one I try to do as fast as possible though.

yep max is on the inside min outside(surprised i didnt make that mistake lol:p) and since my track isnt real wide, theyre both only about 2 or 3 lanes away from the race. i changed a few more INI things to get them to finally avoid wrecks, but i lost the beating and banging they would do while racing:frown:. if i could get them to miss wrecks but still race like that, id be in heaven lol but i dont see any way of doing that.

Here.....give this a try. I've done this with a few tracks that I've had issues with the AI.

It only matters for the race.lp and raceline.lp (the groove and the one that appears when you press R in game). I recorded some LPs as slow as possible to make sure I had the right line and the ai still followed it faster and at a more reasonable speed, also if the lines don't matchup the ai will slowdown to try to get lined up with it again so I assume it's an in-game mechanic which tells it to slowdown when it's "derailing" from the line it's using.

Also, if it's a counterclockwise track, like what NASCAR uses, Min has to be on the inside and Max on the outside . . . if I recall correctly, it's the opposite for clockwise tracks.

The race.lp is the primary racing line the ai use to get around the track. (When it's made, this is the only lp that is speed and steering sensitive.)

The raceline.lp is strictly a visual line for the player. If the lp was made at racing speed, the line will have a bright green color at full throttle and a red color at heavy braking zones. The rest of the line will shadings as the line transfers from throttle to braking and vice versa.

The minrace and minpanic and minpit lp's are always on the right, regardless of track direction.
Conversely, the maxrace and maxpanic and maxpit lp's are always on the left.

"what in the world do i have to do to get the AI to follow the min and maxpanic LPs?? "

There are way too many variables to arrive at a reason (or fix) without seeing the track, lp placement, and track.ini.
The easiest way to get the ai to take an alternate path (i.e. not follow the race.lp) is to increase <ai_squeeze_pcnt>. When the ai start running off the track and/or into walls for no reason, you've gone too far.
